On its third quarter of 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 22, 2026, Amalgamated (NASDAQ:AMAL) raised its full-year earnings guidance after generating record net revenue. The bank's strategy shifts capital away from lower-yielding consumer loans into higher-margin commercial financing without expanding raw balance sheet size.

Three takeaways from management's comments highlight the road ahead.

1. Capital Rotates From Consumer Solar to Commercial Energy Upgrades

Management's planned runoff in residential mortgages and consumer solar loans frees up capital for redeployment into higher-yielding assets. The bank redirected this cash toward Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy, or C-PACE, financing to boost asset returns.

At the same time, lower yielding residential mortgages and consumer solar balances declined through planned runoff, allowing us to redeploy that capital into higher performing assets.
-- Priscilla Sims Brown, President and Chief Executive Officer

2. Post-Election Deposit Unwind Creates Short-Term Margin Pressure

Political demand deposit accounts, or DDA, naturally decline following an election as client organizations spend cash. Management intends to maintain a flat balance sheet through the fourth quarter to manage liquidity and protect net interest income, or NII, from excess volatility.

As another election cycle concludes in Q4, we expect to run a neutral balance sheet. We are comfortable with our liquidity position and ability to limit both NII and margin volatility.
-- Jason Darby, Chief Financial Officer

3. Strategic Focus Shifts to Operating Efficiency Over Size

After reaching its target balance sheet size of $9.6 billion, the bank isn't seeking sheer asset growth. Management targets positive operating leverage, expanding returns and efficiency by generating more earnings from every existing dollar of capital.

In upcoming quarters, you will hear us talk about meaningful growth. And this means growing in a way that strengthens the bank rather than simply enlarging it. Not attempting to become a larger bank for the sake of size.
-- Jason Darby, Chief Financial Officer

Looking Ahead

Operational momentum is accelerating across the bank, supported by specialized commercial lending and steady cost controls through the election transition. Management focuses on capital discipline and loan repricing to support returns.

What stands out to me this quarter is not simply the level of performance but the consistency of our execution and the way the different elements of our strategy are increasingly reinforcing 1 another.
-- Priscilla Sims Brown, President and Chief Executive Officer

An efficiency ratio near 49% and a low-cost deposit base provide structural protection against broader market rate movements. Ongoing technology updates position the balance sheet for sustained profitability in coming years.

We enter the next phase from a position of strength with significant opportunities still ahead of us.
-- Priscilla Sims Brown, President and Chief Executive Officer
