On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 28, 2026, Jersey Mike's Subs (NYSE:JMKE) announced that systemwide sales grew 11% year over year to $1.2 billion on 3% same-store sales growth. Transaction growth drove this performance while broader restaurant industry traffic remained challenged. Three key takeaways stand out for long-term investors.

1. Digital Marketing Drives New Customer Acquisition and Loyalty Growth

Management shifted advertising funds from traditional media to digital channels like paid search and social video. Younger guests and diverse demographics are responding, expanding customer reach, and lifting loyalty app registrations by 21% year to date.

Year-to-date, purchase consideration has improved significantly among younger consumers in the 18- to 34-year-old range as well as women and Hispanic consumers. Loyalty registrations are also up 21% year-to-date, far outpacing our rate of growth.
-- Charles Morrison, Chief Executive Officer

2. Corporate Support Model Shift Expands Operational Profit Margins

The company completed a transition away from its former Area Director model, a regional franchise management framework, to an in-house corporate support structure. Replacing third-party managers with internal staff reduced overhead expenses and added $9 million directly to adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA).

Adjusted EBITDA further benefited from our transition from the Area Director model to an internally staffed support model, which contributed $9 million year-over-year.
-- Michele Allen, Chief Financial Officer

3. New Store Openings Deliver Stronger Unit Economics

New locations opened in 2026 are generating higher annual unit volumes (AUVs), or average annual sales per store, than those opened in 2025. Strong cash returns for franchise owners are supporting a five-year domestic development pipeline without requiring heavy corporate capital spending.

Importantly, we continue to expand while sustaining strong unit economics. Moreover, our 2026 openings are generating higher AUVs than our 2025 openings through the same point last year and our new store openings continue to deliver strong cash-on-cash returns for our franchise owners.
-- Charles Morrison, Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Customer traffic accelerated into the fourth quarter, outpacing fast-casual competitors as management builds out a 1,600-store domestic pipeline and expands internationally while maintaining strict pricing discipline.

Despite what all of the industry saw as some temporary softness late in the third quarter, we feel very good about our performance in the fourth quarter and beyond.
-- Charles Morrison, Chief Executive Officer

An asset-light model converts core operating profit into free cash flow, supporting a $100 million share buyback authorization and a $0.35-per-share special dividend.

We remain confident in our long-term algorithm. Low single-digit same-store sales growth and high single-digit net unit growth combined to drive double-digit EBITDA growth.
-- Michele Allen, Chief Financial Officer
