Deciding between Bloom Energy (NYSE:BE) and NANO Nuclear Energy (NASDAQ:NNE) requires choosing between a growing fuel cell manufacturer and a pre-revenue developer of portable micro-nuclear reactor technology for the future.

Bloom Energy provides onsite power systems using solid oxide technology, while NANO Nuclear Energy aims to build a vertically integrated nuclear business. Both companies target the massive energy needs of data centers and heavy industry. This comparison explores which of these clean energy players is the more compelling choice for your portfolio in 2026.

The case for Bloom Energy

Bloom Energy sells onsite power and hydrogen systems designed for businesses that require reliable, clean electricity. The company serves a wide range of clients, including those in the industrial stocks landscape and the data center sector. Notable partners include American Electric Power (NASDAQ:AEP), which has a supply agreement for up to 1 GW of fuel cells, and Brookfield (NYSE:BN).

In FY 2025, revenue reached nearly $2.0 billion, which represents a growth of roughly 37.3% compared to the previous year. Despite this growth, the company reported a net loss of nearly $88.4 million for the year.

The case for NANO Nuclear Energy

Risk profile comparison

Bloom Energy faces competition from traditional utilities and emerging energy storage technologies. Operational risks include lengthy sales cycles and a reliance on a limited number of sole-source equipment suppliers. Regulatory changes, such as shifts in government tax credits or anti-natural gas sentiment, could also impact the business. Furthermore, the company deals with significant capital intensity and multiple pending securities class action lawsuits.

NANO Nuclear Energy faces high development risks as its microreactors are not yet operational. The company requires substantial future financing, which will likely lead to shareholder dilution. Regulatory and licensing hurdles with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission present complex, lengthy challenges. There is also an operational dependency on executives who hold positions at other companies and ongoing legal risks from shareholder lawsuits.

Valuation comparison

Bloom Energy trades at a high multiple of its revenue, whereas NANO Nuclear Energy lacks the revenue and earnings needed for many traditional valuation metrics.

Which stock would I buy in 2026?

I'd go with Bloom Energy. Its recent crossing of $1 billion in quarterly revenue, with product revenue more than tripling year over year, shows a company that has found its moment as AI data centers seek fast, scalable on-site power. NANO Nuclear, by contrast, is still years from generating its first dollar of commercial revenue.

That is not a knock on what NANO Nuclear is building. Its portable microreactor technology has a fascinating range of potential applications, from data centers to remote communities to space missions, and a strong cash position gives it runway to pursue regulatory approval without immediately needing to raise more money. Its construction permit application submitted to the NRC is a step in the right direction.

But the licensing process alone could take years, and commercial deployment follows after that. Bloom Energy is already powering AI infrastructure today. Even for the most patient investor, owning a company with proven technology, growing revenue, and expanding profits is a stronger foundation than a regulatory timeline that keeps stretching.
