Amazon Shares Jump Over 9% Post-Market as Q2 AWS Revenue Rises 37%, Net Sales Up 20%

Tradingkey - On July 30, Eastern Time, Amazon ( AMZN) announced its second-quarter 2026 financial results, with its after-hours share price once rising over 8%. As of press time, it was still up 6.97% at $251.92.

During the period, Amazon's net sales increased by 20% year-on-year to $200.606 billion, exceeding market expectations of $196.47 billion. By region, North America segment revenue grew 16% year-on-year to $116.177 billion; international segment revenue grew 15% year-on-year to $42.197 billion.

The biggest highlight remains the cloud business. AWS revenue jumped 37% year-on-year to $42.232 billion, exceeding market expectations of $40.54 billion, marking its fastest growth rate in 18 quarters. AWS operating income reached $16.621 billion, compared to $10.16 billion in the same period last year, contributing approximately 60% of the company's overall operating income, with the segment's operating margin rising from about 33% to about 39%.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy stated that the annual revenue for each of AWS's AI business and chip business has exceeded $25 billion.

During the period, operating income increased to $27.5 billion, compared with $19.2 billion in the second quarter of 2025. Operating income for the North America segment was $9.1 billion, compared to $7.5 billion in the same period last year; operating income for the international segment was $1.7 billion, compared to $1.5 billion in the same period last year; operating income for the AWS segment was $16.6 billion, compared to $10.2 billion in the same period last year.

In terms of physical stores, Jassy stated that Amazon once again broke its Prime delivery speed record in the first half of the year, with the number of items delivered same-day or next-day growing by more than 40%, among which the growth rate of groceries and daily essentials was significantly higher than other businesses. In addition, advertising revenue was recorded at $19.81 billion, up 26% year-on-year, which also exceeded market expectations.

On the profit side, under GAAP, Amazon's net income for the second quarter was $62.647 billion, approximately 3.4 times the $18.164 billion in the same period last year; diluted earnings per share was $5.75, far exceeding the market expectation of $1.82. This included a pre-tax non-operating gain of approximately $53.4 billion related to the investment in Anthropic. Operating income, which better reflects the performance of the core business, was $27.461 billion, up 43% year-on-year.

Regarding guidance, Amazon expects third-quarter net sales to be between $197 billion and $202 billion, representing year-on-year growth of 9% to 12%; third-quarter operating income is expected to be between $22.5 billion and $26.5 billion, compared with $17.4 billion in the same period last year.
