Meta is preparing for its fourth overhaul of AI initiatives in just six months, according to a July 15 report from The Information. The details were shared by three people familiar with the matter, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the plans.

As part of the restructuring, the company’s new AI unit, Superintelligence Labs, will be divided into four groups, two sources confirmed. These include a newly created “TBD Lab,” a product team focused on the Meta AI assistant, an infrastructure team, and the Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) lab dedicated to advanced research.

When asked for comment, the tech firm declined to respond.

Meta increasingly adopts AI in its operations amid the AI boom era

Research shows a growing trend among Silicon Valley companies to integrate AI more deeply into their operations as demand for the technology accelerates. Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is among those leading the charge.

In a statement, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, expressed that he is devoted to putting in place the necessary requirements to speed up the development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), particularly in machines that mimic human reasoning and expand new income streams.

Just like other tech giants, Meta faced several challenges in its operation. For instance, the tech company lost some of its top AI workers amid ongoing competition among Silicon Valley tech Companies for skilled AI talent. The company was also greatly disappointed with the recent launch of the Llama 4 model in April.

According to the three sources, Meta has devised a strategy to reshuffle its AI initiatives under Superintelligence Labs to curb these challenges. Additionally, early this month, the tech giant partnered with Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO), a US-based investment management firm, and Blue Owl Capital, an American alternative investment asset management firm. This partnership will enable it to raise approximately $29 billion to support the construction of its data center located in rural Louisiana.

Zuckerberg noted that heavy investment in AI infrastructure is central to the company’s ambition of becoming a global leader in the AI ecosystem. Just last month, the company raised its annual capital expenditure forecast by $2 billion to a range of $66 billion–$72 billion.

For Meta, investing significant funds into the construction of data center infrastructure and enticing skilled AI workers to work at higher salaries will lead to a significant increase in expenses for 2026 compared to 2025.

Meta initiates the use of Superintelligence Labs in its AI operations

Mark Zuckerberg chose to reshuffle Meta’s AI efforts under Superintelligence Labs, a new unit that the company recently introduced because, according to him, it was a game-changer that promised to make the company remain competitive in the AI sector.

Alexandr Wang, the former CEO and co-founder of Scale AI, who is currently Meta’s chief AI officer, was assigned the role of leading the new unit. In addition to Wang, the new unit will also include the participation of other senior AI staff, including Safe Superintelligence (SSI) co-founder and CEO, Daniel Gross.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that Zuckerberg has taken several initiatives to achieve this tremendous success. To illustrate, he initiated talent acquisition efforts and presented opportunities to startups like SSI, which OpenAI’s Ilya Sutskever initially co-founded.

With this new unit, Meta aims to surpass rivals like Google, China’s DeepSeek, and OpenAI in the AI race.
