On its third quarter fiscal year 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 30, 2026, Magna International (NYSE:MGA) announced an 11% increase in adjusted earnings before interest and taxes, or EBIT, despite lower sales volume. Operational efficiency programs and commercial cost recoveries helped protect profitability during a period of sluggish global automotive production. Three key takeaways stand out for long-term investors.

1. Operational Excellence Is Driving Profitability Ahead of Sales

Internal cost controls and operational productivity are expanding profitability faster than top-line revenue. Operational improvements helped absorb commodity cost inflation across key supply chains.

In the quarter, sales were down 4%, reflecting lower light vehicle production and our previously announced dispositions. However, weighted organic growth over market was positive. Adjusted EBIT was up 11%, while adjusted EBIT margin expanded 90 basis points to 6.8%.

2. Cash Flow Generation Supports Aggressive Share Repurchases

Cash generation remains a central pillar of capital allocation, allowing the company to fund operations while returning capital to shareholders. Management completed its prior normal course issuer bid, a Canadian regulatory framework for share repurchases, and authorized a new repurchase program for 25.8 million shares.

During the quarter, we repurchased 7.9 million shares under our current NCIB buyback authorization, which left us with just over one million shares remaining at the end of September. As of today, we will have repurchased all remaining shares.
-- Philip Fracassa, Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer

3. Complete Vehicles Assembly Model Wins New Global Partners

Flexible assembly operations are expanding beyond traditional automakers into autonomous vehicle, or self-driving car, upfitting and European production for Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers. That manufacturing flexibility creates entry points to supply higher-value component systems across new vehicle programs.

In Mesa, Arizona, we are launching and ramping up two new vehicle programs for Waymo in our existing AV upfitting facility. In Graz, Austria, we assembled six vehicles in total for XPENG and GAC.
-- Seetarama (Swamy) Kotagiri, President and Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Automotive production volumes remain volatile across China and Europe, but operational discipline is holding profit margins firm. The company's flexible vehicle manufacturing facilities and deep engineering scale give it structural advantages as automakers transition powertrain platforms. In the meantime, management is watching vehicle assembly schedules, raw material cost pressures, and customer pricing discipline across key markets.

We delivered a strong third quarter with meaningful growth in adjusted EBIT margin and adjusted EPS. Just as importantly, we generated strong free cash flow, reinforcing the quality and sustainability of our earnings.
-- Seetarama (Swamy) Kotagiri, President and Chief Executive Officer

Taken together, capital discipline and flexible factory operations continue to underpin profitability as production volumes normalize.

Overall, we believe Magna is well-positioned to deliver continued margin expansion, EPS growth, and attractive shareholder returns.
-- Seetarama (Swamy) Kotagiri, President and Chief Executive Officer
