  • Civista reduced brokered deposit balances by $25 million during the quarter.

  • Loan balances grew by $38 million despite $47 million in early payoffs.

  • Motley Fool Issues Rare "Total Conviction" Buy Alert ›

On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 22, 2026, Civista Bancshares (NASDAQ:CIVB) reported net income of $16 million, up 26% year over year. Expanding interest margins and disciplined deposit management demonstrate how community banks can build profitability without taking excess risk.

Two key takeaways from management explain how the business continues to create value.

1. Organic Loan Production Overcomes Payoff Headwinds

Commercial clients paid off $47 million in loans as completed real estate projects transitioned to permanent financing or sold outright. New lending teams and $343 million in new organic originations easily surpassed those exits to keep total loan balances growing.

Despite the continued headwinds of $47 million in early payoffs during the quarter, our loan balances grew by $38 million, or at an annual growth rate of 4.7%.
-- Charles Parcher, President and Chief Executive Officer

2. Earnings Generation Supports Share Buybacks and Dividends

Civista maintained its $0.18 per share quarterly dividend while repurchasing 82,075 shares of treasury stock at an average price of $26.96. Strong internal capital creation allows management to return cash to shareholders and preserve capital for organic growth.

We continue to believe our stock is a value and will continue to evaluate repurchase opportunities.
-- Charles Parcher, President and Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Loan pipelines across Ohio and the Greater Midwest remain strong, and management isn't hiding its satisfaction with mid-single-digit growth targets. Unfunded construction commitments provide steady loan demand as projects build out. Management prioritizes core deposit gathering, pricing discipline, and technology investments to drive long-term efficiency.

The first 3 quarters of 2026 have set us up for what should be another good year.
-- Charles Parcher, President and Chief Executive Officer

A low-cost deposit franchise and disciplined underwriting position Civista to compound shareholder value across changing credit cycles.

Civista will continue taking care of our customers, supporting our communities, investing in our people, and creating value for our shareholders.
-- Charles Parcher, President and Chief Executive Officer
