Columbia Sportswear reported third-quarter net sales increased 2% to $963 million.
Global direct-to-consumer digital sales increased 9% during the third quarter.
Management forecasts first-half 2027 wholesale growth in the mid-single-digit percent range.
On its third quarter of 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 29, 2026, Columbia Sportswear (NASDAQ:COLM) reported third-quarter net sales increased 2% to $963 million. However, direct-to-consumer e-commerce sales, or online retail sales made straight to shoppers, accelerated as digital traffic improved. Three things management said stand out.
Columbia Sportswear reduced promotional activity across its e-commerce platform, which is its direct-to-consumer digital store, to build brand equity and improve sales margins. High-single-digit digital growth for the flagship brand helped increase overall sales while attracting new active shoppers.
This momentum accelerated through the quarter, including strong early sell-through of fall '26 products. Importantly, it also came with reduced promotions, consistent with our strategy of repositioning e-com as a more full-price channel.
-- Timothy Boyle, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Management launched the Engineered for Whatever marketing campaign, its global advertising platform targeting younger outdoor enthusiasts, to refresh core product lines like fleece and outerwear. These targeted campaigns drove new customer acquisition to its highest level since 2023.
ACCELERATE the long-term strategy. So we're very encouraged with some of the momentum we're seeing, particularly around our consumer focus and being able to reach them with the marketing, which I'll remind, Engineered for Whatever is just a little more than a year old.
-- Joe Boyle, Co-President
Advance order commitments from wholesale partners, which are retail stores that sell Columbia merchandise, expanded for the upcoming Spring 2027 season. Early order momentum signals stabilizing inventory levels across retail channels in both domestic and international markets.
While we intend to provide full year 2027 guidance on our Q4 call, we're currently forecasting wholesale growth in the mid-single-digit percent range, both in the U.S. and globally for the first half of '27.
-- Timothy Boyle, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Product sell-through across core outerwear and footwear lines is picking up in global markets. And with a debt-free balance sheet and $230 million in cash, the company has the capital strength to absorb freight costs and navigate international supply chain delays. In the meantime, management is watching inventory normalization and making surgical price adjustments.
This quarter's performance provides us with further proof points and greater confidence that our strategy is gaining traction.
-- Timothy Boyle, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
On the growth side, strong direct-to-consumer engagement positions the business well for the long term as seasonal winter demand takes hold.
I'm confident that we have the strategies in place, combined with our talented and energized global workforce to return our business to a path of long-term sustainable growth.
-- Timothy Boyle, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
