Foolish Take

Palantir's revenue towers over Figma, since the former holds contracts with the U.S. and other governments in addition to commercial customers. Palantir also serves a key role through its AI platform, supporting the use of AI in warfare.

That aside, while both are experiencing year-over-year sales growth, Palantir has consistently delivered quarterly increases. This rapid rate of expansion demonstrates the strong customer demand it's seeing for its software solutions. The company expects to extend the trend in the third quarter, forecasting revenue to come in around $2.2 billion.

Figma's lower revenue reflects its smaller design-focused niche. In this arena, the company is producing outsized growth. Its second-quarter sales of $370.1 million represents an excellent 48% year-over-year increase.

Part of Figma's revenue expansion is due to its implementation of AI credits, with Q2 representing the first full quarter of AI credit monetization. This new revenue stream, where customers are charged based on usage of Figma's AI tools, enabled the company to raise its full-year guidance. Now, the question is whether AI usage continues to grow when Figma reports third-quarter earnings on Nov. 4.
