Investors Pull $643 Million From Bitcoin ETFs After the Biggest Crypto Hack in History

Source Beincrypto

Investors pulled $643.33 million from US spot Bitcoin ETFs on October 30, according to SoSoValue data. The exit came one day after hackers drained about $6.3 billion from Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange.

These funds let brokerage customers own Bitcoin (BTC) the way they own a stock. They hold $98.14 billion in assets, and Friday’s withdrawal snapped a four-day run of inflows.

Which Bitcoin ETFs Lost the Most Money?

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), the largest of the funds, lost about $234 million. Funds run by Fidelity and Ark Invest posted the next-largest exits.

When investors cash out, large trading firms return fund shares in exchange for Bitcoin or cash. Either way, the funds give up coins that can then be sold on the open market.

Ethereum (ETH) funds lost another $156 million the same day. That marked their fifth straight day of outflows.

How Big Was the Binance Hack?

On October 29, an attacker moved roughly $6.36 billion out of Binance’s exchange wallets across 10 blockchains, according to analytics firm TRM. Most of the money left in about 20 minutes.

TRM linked the theft to TraderTraitor, a North Korean hacking unit. The haul is about four times the $1.5 billion Bybit hack of February 2025, the previous record.

Binance suspended deposits and withdrawals and said user funds are safe. Token issuers and network operators have frozen about $2.7 billion of the stolen assets, TRM said.

Is One Day of Withdrawals a Warning Sign?

Friday’s exit equals about 0.7% of the money held in the funds.

A similar exit came on October 22, when investors pulled $635 million in one session. Inflows then returned for four straight days starting October 26.

However, the last record hack was followed by heavier selling. A week after the Bybit theft, investors pulled a then-record $1 billion in one day, ETF.com reported. Outflows that week neared $3 billion.

Is Bitcoin Headed for a Second Losing October?

About $11 billion in Bitcoin options, contracts that bet on future prices, also expired on October 30. The Bitcoin price today sits at $77,189, down 1.7% in 24 hours, BeInCrypto data shows.

Monthly return data shared by trader Crypto Rover shows Bitcoin down 7.3% for October so far. The coin also fell 3.95% in October 2025.

Back-to-back losing Octobers have happened only once before, in 2011 and 2012. The same data puts Bitcoin’s average October gain at 26%.

For fund holders, the next sessions will show whether Friday’s exit looks more like October 22 or February 2025.
