On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 29, 2026, Coursera (NYSE:COUR) announced Q3 revenue of $377 million. Investors watching the online learning provider need to weigh margin expansion against top-line growth pressure. Three key takeaways from management's call explain where the business is headed.

1. Cost Savings Accelerate Beyond Initial Synergy Expectations in the Udemy Merger

Management compressed its 24-month integration plan with Udemy down to eight months. Cost discipline generated immediate operating leverage, boosting adjusted EBITDA margin to 16% during the quarter.

We now expect to have more than $150 million of annualized gross cost savings in place by year-end. Those savings underpin the transaction's $115 million annual run rate net synergy target, which we are on track to deliver just 8 months after close.
-- Gregory Hart, President and Chief Executive Officer

2. Project Helix Targets AI Workforce Skill Preparation

Enterprise demand is shifting from generic learning content toward verifiable skill development. The company is building an adaptive platform, called Project Helix, to help businesses bridge the gap between AI infrastructure investments and employee readiness.

Project Helix is designed to deliver personalized learning by identifying the skills required to achieve a business goal, where the learner is at currently, and providing coursework with outcomes that validate the learner's new abilities.

We are taking a phased approach, working with a select group of customers and partners to shape the experience and targeting broad enterprise availability in the first half of 2027.
-- Gregory Hart, President and Chief Executive Officer

3. Operational Discipline Shifts Focus Back to Commercial Execution

With structural expense reductions in the Udemy and Coursera merger integration moving quickly, management is redirecting focus toward driving platform engagement and organic growth. Subscription revenue now provides a recurring base as transactional revenue faces headwinds.

Our primary goal for 2026 has been to move through the most disruptive parts of integration thoughtfully and quickly so we can increasingly focus on commercial execution, product delivery, and the most important driver of future revenue, customer value creation.
-- Michael Foley, Chief Financial Officer

Looking Ahead

Generative AI course enrollments are rising rapidly alongside demand for human critical thinking skills. Coursera relies on its global partner network of universities and industry leaders, along with Udemy's nearly 100,000 instructors, to build verified learning pathways while maintaining strict cost discipline.

Learners are not choosing between technical AI skills and human skills, they're building both. Across our platforms, the GenAI enrollment rate increased from 25 per minute in 2025 to more than 40 per minute in 2026. At the same time, critical thinking enrollments grew over 100% year over year.
-- Gregory Hart, President and Chief Executive Officer

A unified platform architecture and disciplined share repurchases support long-term capital allocation goals. Success hinges on turning integration efficiency between Udemy and Coursera into sustainable product value for enterprise customers.

Integration creates capacity. Product execution turns that capacity into customer value, and customer value is what unlocks more durable growth over time.
-- Gregory Hart, President and Chief Executive Officer
