Micron Stock Price Forecast: Is This Rally Over After Pullback From Highs Nearly Breaches $1,000 Mark?

TradingKey - Surges and Pulls Back to Barely Defend $1,000! What's Next for the AI Memory Giant?

On September 8 Eastern Time, Micron Technology (MU) experienced sharp stock price volatility, surging sharply over 2% after the open to above $1,041, hitting a multi-month high. Subsequently, Micron's stock price continued to pull back, dipping as low as $997, before barely holding the psychological round level of $1,000. By the close, Micron fell 1.61% to settle at $1,000.26.

Benefiting from demand for high-performance computing (HPC) from AI chip giants such as Nvidia (NVDA), Micron's HBM3E/HBM4 capacity remains tight, while overall contract prices for memory products are strongly supported, driving its stock price higher.

However, Micron encountered resistance when challenging higher valuations. Following a strong breakout, short-term profit-taking quickly emerged, causing the stock to face break-even and profit-taking selling pressure around $1,000. This reflects a bull-bear tug-of-war and position clearing at a key psychological level. However, this does not mean the current rally is over, primarily because industry fundamentals remain unchanged and the AI memory supply-demand imbalance persists.

Backed by strong fundamentals, Micron bulls could still launch a new offensive. However, a sharp surge is unlikely, with the stock more likely to trend upward amid volatility due to a dense overhead zone of trapped capital. Whether it can ultimately break through its all-time high of $1,255 depends critically on its earnings report at the end of this month. Micron is expected to report its fiscal fourth-quarter (Q4) 2026 financial results after the U.S. market close on September 30.

From a technical analysis perspective, if Micron's stock price can push back above $1,040 on heavy volume and hold firmly, it will open up a new upward wave toward $1,200–$1,325. The $980–$1,000 range serves as a retest zone for Micron's stock price; building a base here would represent a healthy post-breakout retest. However, falling below $930 would indicate that the rebound structure has been compromised, shifting the short term into wide-range consolidation.
