Take-Two Stock Rebounds After GTA VI Reveal: Is TTWO Ready for Launch?

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - On Thursday, Take-Two Interactive (NASDAQ: TTWO) stock closed trading at $233.00. The stock traded around $239 overnight, and this was most likely driven by the 27-minute Grand Theft Auto VI preview on Netflix. This allowed Take-Two to move forward from the leak that had clouded the run-up to Take-Two's November launch for GTA VI. The game is one of their main revenue drivers for fiscal 2027, which Take-Two is aiming for a net bookings range of $8B to $8.2B. Take-Two shouldn't have high expectations for the stock, as the bookings range from the game should be looked at as an additional revenue booster rather than a main source of income.

GTA VI Reveal Helps Reset the Narrative After the Leak

The past two weeks were eventful for Take-Two due to an unauthorized GTA VI leak that was posted on August 18th. The leak prompted Rockstar to call the leak “heartbreaking” on their employees and Take-Two to issue subpoenas against Microsoft and Discord to gather more information that could help with Take-Two's leak identification investigation.

The stock continued to weaken due to the leak, but when an official reveal was scheduled for the 27th of August, it was easier for investors to mentally organize for a catalyst. Netflix was the first to post the reveal on their platform before Rockstar posted it to their website and YouTube channel. It was captured on PlayStation 5 and showed various activities, dynamic combat, police chases, and driving with some story missions.

There was a large amount of demand for the reveal, most likely due to the anticipation of the game. Live coverage recorded roughly 881,000 combined Twitch viewers immediately before the Netflix premiere, and many Netflix users reported issues with the streaming service when the game was set to go live. Again, game launch demand is not a direct correlation of game sales.

November 19 Is the Financial Catalyst That Matters Most

November 19 remains the firm launch date for GTA VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S from Rockstar and Take Two has been sticking to that timeline with the launch of fiscal Q1 and expectations of net bookings being $8.0-$8.2 billion for the current fiscal year 2027.

Net bookings for fiscal 2027 are expected to be $8.0-$8.2 billon as opposed to fiscal 2026 being $6.72 billion. $1.39 billion was booked for fiscal Q1 which was comfortably greater than what the company had expected from management. This has placed a greater burden and a more significant emphasis on the other titles scheduled for release during the holiday season and, of course, GTA VI.

As recorded on Rockstar’s website, the standard edition is coming in at $79.99. This gives a good early indication for Take-Two’s performance on selling a premium console title and converting high fan interest to high demand. The more important figure will be how much the title sells for, recurrent spending, and how much the title will be able to earn for future online monetization. The expectations are for a higher base for Take Two for the following fiscal years.

Wall Street Remains Bullish, but Expectations Are Already High

Analyst reports remain constructive, despite the leaks. Benchmark kept its Buy rating and $300 price target. Other price target changes were: BTIG: $313; JPMorgan: $310; Wells Fargo and Roth Capital: $300; Goldman Sachs: $285; and Oppenheimer: $280. Such a wide range of target prices shows the volatility of the stock, even with positive news about GTA VI.

With the stock trading at $233.00, large bullish targets make this a buy for many investors, except that most commentators view the launch and the successful post-launch revenue stream as a certainty, and have a positive view of the stock.

Concerns surrounding delay, pre-order and monetization issues, poor execution, and the post-launch cash in are some of the things that could diminish the company's stock price.

Take-Two Is More Than GTA VI, but the Stock Is Trading Like a GTA VI Story

Take-Two Interactive Software owns a number of other things besides GTA VI, including NBA 2K, Grand Theft Auto Online, Red Dead Redemption, and a large mobile operation. These things help add predictable cash flow in the months leading up to the GTA VI launch. Until GTA VI is released, these other franchises will probably not help the stock price much, but will include predictable cash flow to offset the launch.

Investors will be interested in pre-order numbers, legal disputes due to leaks, news about the game’s physical distribution, new online features, and how confident Rockstar Games is about the November release date.

What Should Investors Watch Next?

The setup following the Netflix showcase is now clearer as we know more. As of the close of trading on the 27th of August, TTWO closed at $233.00. However, overnight trading pushed price back to $239 which shows an improvement in sentiment. That said, TTWO is still below the high of the 52 week period at $265.94 which was reached on the 7th of July.

The nearest support can be expected between $228-$233 as that contains the lower trading range of the leaks. Potential resistance can be expected around $248, with $265-$266 around the 52 week high. If the stock manages to trade above this area, it is likely that the stock is being repriced around the execution of the launch without the leak-related risk.

TTWO Technical Analysis: $238 Pivot Holds as Descending Trendline Caps Recovery

Take-Two Interactive is currently trading at $238.33 after rebounding from the $228 region on the 2-hour Chart. This trading range has trading activity above the short term moving average of $236.58, with the long term moving averages of $238.19. The resistance levels of $239-$242 are now current trading range resistance, with a descending trendline limiting the short-term price recovery. If price manages to clear this range on the breakout, price would aim for $245.34.

After that, focus will be on $248.81 and $252.67. The short-term recovery has been improved after the small recover of the RSI line which is currently at 56. Resistance holding would bring Key support at $236.20. Breaking this support would shift focus to $232.51 and $227.99. In the short-term, the Descending trendline would be the key resistance area for price trading above $236.

Forecast: $242 would be the breakout target.

Is Take-Two stock a buy ahead of GTA VI?

Take-Two has a strong launch catalyst and broadly bullish Wall Street, but much of the case depends on GTA VI succeeding at a high level. The risk-reward is attractive only for investors comfortable with high event-driven volatility and very demanding expectations.

When will GTA VI be released?

Rockstar Games has the release date for GTA VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026..

Bottom Line

With the extended look of GTA VI, Take-Two Interactive has a clearer near-term narrative. Before, people were breaking the news of leaks; now, Take-Two gets to show their work and develop the hype leading to the product release. The financial thesis is still the same. Take-Two still has an outlook of $8.0-$8.2 billion for fiscal 2027 net bookings, of which GTA VI plays a big role.

With TTWO currently valued at $233.00 at the end of recent sessions, after the extended look at GTA VI, there is still a good amount of room for growth. If expectations are met, and the game is released according to the established timeline, investments will pay off, given that the game lives up to the hype.

Things are looking positive, but the hype is fragile as today's valuation is reflective of another delay or a weaker launch cycle.
