SUI and Optimism (OP) lead $832 million token unlocks this week

The latest round of token unlocks, scheduled for the week between December 30 and January 5, is valued at more than $832 million.

Sui (SUI) leads the cliff unlocks with a release worth $263.20 million, while Worldcoin (WLD) continues to lead linear unlocks at $80.41 million. This period marks one of the largest coordinated token releases of the cryptocurrency market in early 2025, according to data from Tokenomist.

SUI leads large cliff unlocks 

Sui (SUI) dominates the upcoming token releases, with 64.19 million tokens valued at $263.20 million set for unlock. This represents 2.19% of its circulating supply. This unlock marks a key moment for the layer-1 blockchain platform as it enters 2025.

Next in line is Optimism (OP), preparing to release 31.34 million tokens worth $58.30 million. It will add 2.32% to its circulating supply.

ZetaChain (ZETA) follows with an unlock of 53.89 million tokens valued at $31.45 million, which will increase its circulating supply by 9.35%. Kaspa (KAS) faces a larger token release by volume at 182.23 million tokens. However, this translates to $21.51 million in value and only 0.72% of its supply.

The artificial intelligence sector also sees notable unlocks, with AI Token (AI) releasing 23.21 million tokens worth $14.19 million. This marks a substantial 17.85% increase in circulating supply.

Other large cliff unlocks include dYdX (DYDX) with 8.33 million tokens ($12.83 million, 1.17% of supply), Elrond (ENA) with 12.86 million tokens ($12.26 million, 0.44% of supply), and Project AGI (AGI) releasing 76.53 million tokens ($10.88 million, 5.72% of supply).

Worldcoin leads linear unlocks 

Worldcoin (WLD) maintains its position as the largest linear unlock for another week, with 37.23 million tokens valued at $80.41 million scheduled for release. This unlock represents 4.48% of WLD’s circulating supply and continues the project’s gradual token distribution strategy.

Following closely, Solana (SOL) will release 465,770 tokens worth $88.45 million. However, this represents just 0.10% of its circulating supply. The layer-1 blockchain segment shows strong representation in this week’s linear unlocks.

TIA Protocol (TIA) plans to release 6.99 million tokens valued at $34.45 million (1.49% of supply), while Dogecoin (DOGE) schedules an unlock of 94.47 million tokens worth $30.09 million (0.06% of supply).

Avalanche (AVAX) continues its distribution with 700,000 tokens worth $25.61 million (0.17% of supply), and TAO Protocol (TAO) will unlock 50,400 tokens valued at $23.69 million (0.68% of supply).

Other notable linear unlocks include Polkadot (DOT) with 2.81 million tokens ($19.69 million, 0.18% of supply), NEAR Protocol (NEAR) releasing 2.97 million tokens ($15.87 million, 0.24% of supply), and SEI Network (SEI) unlocking 26.97 million tokens ($11.33 million, 0.64% of supply).

The distribution schedule includes additional releases from established projects like Filecoin (FIL), releasing 2.24 million tokens worth $11.39 million (0.36% of supply).

Less popular token unlocks and fan tokens

Several smaller market capitalization projects face notable token unlocks in the coming days. Kaon Protocol (AKRO) plans to release 705.82 million tokens, worth $974,690. This represents 4.71% of total locked tokens. With a current price of $0.001381 and up 4.90% in 24 hours, AKRO shows a 45.07% unlock progress on its vesting schedule.

The gaming sector sees activity with Game Meteor Coin (GMTO) unlocking 25.1 billion tokens valued at $12.38 million, making up 25.10% of its locked supply. GMTO’s price has dropped 6.75% in the last 24 hours, with the project showing 74% completion of its unlock schedule.

Fan tokens form an interesting subset of upcoming unlocks. Juventus Fan Token (JUV) will release 208,334 tokens worth $334,102 (1.04% of locked supply), while FC Barcelona Fan Token (BAR) plans to unlock 414,737 tokens valued at $928,664 (1.04% of locked supply).

Atletico Madrid Fan Token (ATM) rounds out the sports token unlocks with 135,556 tokens worth $288,377, representing 1.36% of locked tokens. These fan tokens show varying levels of vesting progress, with ATM at 74.96%, JUV at 59.38%, and BAR at 57.49% completion of their respective unlock schedules.
