Tech giant Xiaomi has revealed that its humanoid robots have hit 98% success rate, closing the gap with human workers, after four months of factory work and tuning.

Xiaomi deployed the robots inside its car production facility in March. In the trial, the robots were tasked with picking screw nuts and fastening them to points on the car floors.

According to the reports, the machines operated on their own for three straight hours and finished assembly work without human intervention. At the time, they hit the 90.2% success rate at the task.

Xiaomi revealed on Wednesday that the robots now operate at a 98% success rate, just 1% below the performance level of human workers, after four months of testing and optimizations.

In addition to the improved nut loading task, Xiaomi added two jobs for the robots, including sorting center console side panels and folding and recycling parts bins, with both running at a 90% success rate.

Xiaomi is pushing toward deploying “a large number” of humanoids in its own factories over the next five years, according to the founder Lei Jun.

Chinese auto makers are entering the robotics sector

Xiaomi is not the only Chinese automaker dabbling in robotics.

Just in, people familiar with the matter revealed Chinese automaker XPeng is preparing to launch its humanoids globally by next year, as part of its plan to become a “physical AI company.”

The company is reportedly building a Guangzhou facility to mass-produce its IRON humanoid robot, starting with 1,000 units by the end of 2026. The company aims to make more than one million units by the end of the decade, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

XPeng plans to deploy the robots as sales assistants across its stores in China within the first quarter of 2027, before expanding to its international stores later in the year.

XPeng revealed its plans to introduce humanoids during its AI Day event in Guangzhou back in November 2025, Cryptopolitan reported.

“I don’t know how many robots we will sell in the next 10 years, but it will be more than the number of cars,” CEO He Xiaopeng said at the time.
