Noninterest-bearing deposits grew 6% year-over-year through checking account acquisition.
Net interest margin expanded to 4.51% in the third quarter.
Excess capital reached $2 billion or $8.28 per share.
On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 27, 2026, Central Bancompany (NASDAQ:CBC) reported net income of $116.2 million. The regional bank's low deposit costs and steady loan repricing reinforce its core earnings power.
Three takeaways from management explain how the company positions itself for long-term growth.
Central Bancompany builds its deposit base around low-cost checking accounts rather than competing on price for high-yield savings balances. This customer acquisition focus delivers stable deposit funding without squeezing interest margins.
We really focus on customer -- our customer acquisition on checking accounts and not high yield savings. We are not trying to buy money. We are trying to bring new customers in on the checking account side and so it is.
-- John T. Ross, President and Chief Executive Officer
Fixed-rate loans and securities maturing over upcoming quarters reprice into higher current market yields. This organic balance sheet dynamic lifts net interest income without requiring aggressive loan growth.
And I think ... the conclusions are correct. there is additional opportunity for that net interest margin and net interest income to grind higher.
-- James K. Ciroli, Chief Financial Officer
The bank holds $2 billion in excess capital, equal to $8.28 per share. Management remains selective with share repurchases under its $100 million authorization to protect stock liquidity while preserving capacity for future bank acquisitions.
And we only have a $100 million authorization And so we wanna make sure that we pick our spots and pick them in the right places if we are going to take action on that.
-- John T. Ross, President and Chief Executive Officer
Interest rate swings challenge regional banks, but hedging protects core earnings. Core deposit strength provides structural cost advantages during rate volatility.
I think that, you know, now in the rate cycle, it is probably the right time to think about are there means that we can we can take that are prudent and reduce our exposure a little bit to potential rate volatility.
-- James K. Ciroli, Chief Financial Officer
Long-term expansion depends on balance sheet strength and disciplined acquisitions.
Once we do a deal, we will get more flow out there, the dynamic will change, but it will all always be balanced against the M&A opportunity set going forward.
-- John T. Ross, President and Chief Executive Officer
