Elon Musk slams Trump’s new spending bill on X, calls it a “disgusting abomination”

Elon has had enough. On Monday, the billionaire slammed President Trump’s latest spending proposal on X, calling the bill a “disgusting abomination” and blaming Congress for what he sees as the destruction of America’s finances.

“Shame on those who voted for it,” Elon wrote. “You know you did wrong. You know it.” He didn’t stop there. He accused lawmakers of loading the legislation with waste and warned it would explode the federal deficit to $2.5 trillion. “Congress is making America bankrupt,” he said.

The criticism came as Trump’s so-called “one big beautiful bill” advanced in the Senate, with Republican leadership pushing hard to pass it before July 4. The bill already passed the House by a tight margin last month, and now the clock is ticking in the upper chamber.

According to the White House’s Fact Sheet, the legislation bundles together tax reforms, defense spending, and energy priorities, all key parts of Trump’s second-term agenda.

Senators face deadline as bill stirs Republican infighting

John Thune, the Senate Majority Leader, said Monday that the chamber is moving fast. “It’s going to be a busy month — we have a lot to get done,” he said during remarks on the Senate floor. Thune explained that the top priority is to deliver this bill to Trump before the Independence Day recess.

But the GOP can only afford to lose three votes if every Democrat holds the line, and many Republicans have already made it clear they’re not on board.

The House version barely got through after arguments within the GOP over provisions like Medicaid cuts. Those same problems are now surfacing in the Senate. Thune admitted the bill must stay close to what the House passed to avoid losing Republican support. “The House struck a very delicate balance,” he told reporters. “But there are some things that senators want added to the bill, or things we’d do slightly differently.”

Trump has taken an active role in trying to hold the party together. After the recess ended, he met with Thune and reached out to key GOP senators, including Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Josh Hawley of Missouri.

Johnson has demanded sharper spending cuts and wants the debt ceiling separated from the rest of the bill. After talking with Trump, he told reporters their meeting was “very respectful” but acknowledged they have different ideas about how to reach the same goal.

Opposition builds inside GOP as crypto community watches

Rand Paul, the Republican senator from Kentucky, has completely rejected the bill because of the debt ceiling increase. Paul says he won’t support it under any circumstances. Trump responded to him directly on Truth Social, saying, “He votes NO on everything, but never has any practical or constructive ideas.”

Paul’s refusal puts more pressure on GOP leaders to keep others in line if they want to get this done by July 4. The package is being sold as a way to cut $1.5 trillion in federal spending, but that claim is already being challenged.

Critics like Johnson and Paul argue the cuts aren’t deep enough and say tying the debt ceiling to this bill is irresponsible. That’s also what’s lighting a fire under voices like Elon, who see the bill as one more example of unchecked government waste.

Crypto supporters have joined the backlash. Pro-XRP lawyer John E Deaton responded to Elon on X, writing, “The Big Beautiful Bill proves that Washington, no matter which party is in control, is addicted to the 💴 🖨️ and spending MORE 💰 than we take in. Period.” His post quickly gained traction across crypto Twitter, with users saying the bill would only make inflation worse and weaken trust in the US dollar.

With the deadline now less than a month away, the Senate is stuck between passing Trump’s bill and risking a public fight within the Republican party. Elon didn’t just criticize the numbers — he called out the process.

He made it clear he’s done watching from the sidelines while Congress writes massive checks America can’t cover. His post echoed concerns that have been growing in the crypto space for years: out-of-control spending, reckless debt policies, and no end in sight.

There’s no guarantee this bill will make it to Trump’s desk in time. The Senate still has to pass its version, then send it back to the House. Every change could cost votes. But for now, Trump is pressing ahead, and the blowback from both inside his party and from figures like Elon is only getting louder.
