President Trump to speak at the Digital Asset Summit on Thursday

President Donald Trump will deliver a speech at the Digital Asset Summit (DAS) in New York City on Thursday, March 20, at 10:40 AM ET. This will be the first time a sitting U.S. president has addressed a crypto conference. The speech will take place at North Javits and will be streamed live on X and YouTube.

The announcement follows comments made earlier this week by Bo Hines, the Executive Director of the White House’s President’s Council of Advisers on Digital Assets, when he confirmed that the U.S. government is actually open to actively acquiring Bitcoin as part of the newly created Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.

Speaking at DAS on Tuesday, Bo told attendees, “It’s high time that our president started accumulating assets for the American people, which is what President Trump is doing rather than taking it away.”

Trump moves Bitcoin into national strategy

Trump’s administration has of course made Bitcoin a central part of U.S. financial policy, as earlier this month, he signed an executive order finally creating the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve he promised during campaign.

Bo explained once again that the government’s Bitcoin accumulation strategy is similar to how countries stockpile gold reserves, telling the DAS audience, “I’ve been asked all the time, it’s like how much do you want? Well, that’s like asking a country how much gold do you want – as much as we can get.”

Senator Cynthia Lummis and Congressman Nick Begich have introduced proposals for the U.S. to acquire 1 million BTC over the next five years. Meanwhile, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, speaking at DAS on Wednesday, said he believes this legislation will pass before the current congressional session ends.

Trump will not be the only high-profile name at DAS. Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of MicroStrategy, will deliver a keynote speech and participate in a fireside chat with Bitcoin historian Pete Rizzo. The discussion is expected to focus on Bitcoin’s role in corporate treasury strategies and its growing adoption among institutions.

The event will also include a panel discussion on Bitcoin ETFs and institutional adoption. Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart will moderate a discussion featuring BlackRock’s Head of Digital Assets, Robbie Mitchnick, and Nasdaq’s Head of U.S. Equities & Exchange-Traded Products, Giang Bui. With Bitcoin ETFs seeing increased approval and mainstream attention, the conversation is likely to cover new financial products and their impact on the market.

Trump’s upcoming speech follows his previous Bitcoin-focused engagement at the world’s largest Bitcoin conference in Nashville last year, where he first promised to create the national bitcoin strategic reserve.
