Corsair CEO believes GTA 6 might come to PC in 2026; the release window is still set for the fall of 2025

Andy Paul, the CEO of the PC accessories company Corsair Gaming, recently speculated that Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6 might release on PC as soon as early 2026. Paul mentioned that GTA 6 is among the most anticipated and ‘hardware demanding’ games expected to launch in 2025, adding that the game is arguably about one year away from PC launch. Take-Two Interactive has not yet confirmed whether the PC launch will be in 2026 or not.

The game publisher addressed the lack of announcements concerning the PC GTA 6 launch in May last year, telling gamers that the information would be released in due time, depending on the release window. The statement came a few months after the release of the first GTA 6 trailer in 2023. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick also explained in the statement that the publisher’s mission is to be where the consumers were.

Zelnick reportedly hinted in a recent interview that the company would maintain its history of launching games on its initial console before publishing them across other platforms. The gaming company is known for game releases on PC a few years after console launches, including titles like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption. Zelnick still highlighted the rising importance of PC gaming across the industry, mentioning that the trend will most possibly continue.

The Take-Two Interactive CEO reportedly confirmed that GTA 6 is still set to launch on consoles in the fall this year, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox X|S, despite the risk of slippage. The executive further touched on the internal and external anticipation for the game’s launch, insisting on the perfection Rockstar Games seeks. Many gamers have made speculations that GTA 6 will come in October despite Zelnick and Take-Two not releasing an actual launch date.

Rockstar Games plans to support various platforms

The GTA 6 developer is also planning to ensure the game plays seamlessly across various platforms despite the difference in technology. Zelnick touched on the topic in the 2024 Take-Two earnings call in November last year after analyst Carl Griffin asked about the game’s potential less-than-smooth performance on Xbox. Griffin raised concerns about the Xbox Series S consoles having a ‘lower-specs console’ design compared to other current-generation consoles.

The Take-Two CEO said that he is not worried about GTA 6’s performance on Xbox Series S, adding that the publisher’s titles were versatile in terms of support across platforms. Zelnick added that gamers would always show up for titles that featured great properties. The publisher’s chief exec also used the growth of PC gaming as an example of the diversity rising in the gaming industry.

Xbox Series S has had issues supporting some games, including Dune: Awakening and Baldur’s Gate 3. Baldur’s Gate 3 developers delayed the release of the game’s Xbox version due to the console’s inability to function on the same standard as other consoles. Dune: Awakening’s chief product officer, Scott Junior, also reportedly explained last year that the game’s developers were working on optimizations for Xbox S to allow the game’s seamless gameplay on the console.

DFC projects GTA 6 to make over $3 billion in its first year

In a recent analysis report on Financial Times, video games research company DFC Intelligence mentioned that GTA 6 might make over $3 billion in the first 12 months after launch. The report also hinted that the game would receive over $1 billion in pre-orders before the game launched.

DFC added that the game’s success might drive gaming industry sales despite underwhelming game performances over the past year. The report further predicted that the game’s performance would outshine some of the major film titles, including the recently released Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine.

IDG Consulting CEO Yoshio Osaki also explained that GTA 6 could be one of the biggest releases in the gaming, entertainment, and media industries. The game will be the latest release in the GTA franchise and the first release in over a decade. Osaki explained the pent-up anticipation built has significantly increased the game’s demand more than anything the industry has seen in a while.

The report further highlighted the current period as one of the toughest periods experienced in the gaming industry, including the massive layoffs experienced since 2022. Microsoft, Sony, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, and Take-Two are some of the companies that have had major layoffs, amounting to a total of approximately 33,000 layoffs since 2022. Reasons speculated as the main causes for the layoffs include rising game development costs, underwhelming game sales, mergers & acquisitions, and more.
