AI meme tokens have reached over $10 billion in market value by 2024, with Ai16z itself hitting a $2.7 billion market cap. The token’s price surged 200%, driven by whale activity and increased trading volume. With plans for a new Layer 1 network, Ai16z and other AI-driven tokens are to play a significant role in the 2025 crypto bull run.

AI meme tokens, as of January 2025, AI meme tokens have achieved a market value of more than $10 billion, based on Coingecko data.

Ai16z price surge by whale activity

Among the new market’s big players, based on the Solana blockchain ai16z was introduced in late 2024 and has already emerged as the biggest AI meme coin, with a market cap of around $2.7 billion.

Ai16z with its price jumping more than 200% over the past week, reaching $2.41. It has also seen a massive 600% gain over the last month, making it one of the top AI-based meme coins.

The price surge comes with a 147% increase in open interest, now reaching $63 million, while daily trading volume has gone up by 40%, surpassing $260 million.

The price of ai16z has gone from under $1 to $2.40 in less than a week.  Blockchain data from SOL Scan shows significant whale activity around this coin.

One whale spent $10 million to buy more than 13 million ai16z tokens. Within a few weeks, the token’s price had skyrocketed, and a profit of almost $6 million was possible. A whale wallet withdrew 1.86 million ai16z tokens, worth around $3.95 million from Gate.io, increasing its total holdings to 10.21 million ai16z tokens, worth $22.86 million. Another new wallet withdrew 9,317 SOL ($1.77 million) and used it to buy 955,500 ai16z tokens.

However, ai16z is not the only token earned from this AI meme coin trend.

Other AI Meme Token Market Value

The developers behind ai16z are working on improving the token’s structure and planning to launch a new Layer 1 network, similar to Pump.fun, which could further impact the price of ai16z and other related tokens.ai16z is the first venture capital DAO driven by AI agents.

This AI-powered platform uses collective intelligence to optimize investment decisions. Crypto experts believe the AI agents trend will dominate in 2025.

For example, VIRTUAL, another AI-related token, saw a strong surge in 2024, further highlighting the growing interest in AI-powered projects. ai16z also contributed to this trend with impressive gains. In 2024, Solana-based meme coins, like Peanut the Squirrel (PNUT) and Fartcoin (FARTCOIN), saw huge market activity, boosting the overall ecosystem.

Fartcoin is another AI meme token that is also doing very well. Fartcoin is also tied to the popular AI project Truth Terminal, and its price has recently jumped 39%,  reaching a market cap of $1.5 billion.

This represents an interest in AI meme coins as investors aim to acquire larger portions from digital assets. Virtual Protocol, another AI-driven project gaining popularity, spiked recently in its price to new highs of $5.09.

These projects incorporate AI technology to better blockchain functionality, which is quite in demand among investors who would like to invest in revolutionary projects.

AI meme tokens, especially Ai16z, are growing quickly and could play a big part in 2025 these tokens are expected to be a part of big bull run, as meme coin rally is yet to come.

Bitcoin briefly loses 2025 gains as crypto plunges over the weekend.Bitcoin experienced a sharp decline this weekend, briefly erasing its 2025 gains and dipping below its year-opening value of $93,507. The cryptocurrency fell to a low of $93,029 on Sunday, representing a 25% drop from its all-time high in October. Although it has rebounded slightly to around $94,209, the pressures on the market remain significant. The downturn occurred despite the reopening of the U.S. government on Thursday, which many had hoped would provide essential support for crypto markets. This year initially appeared promising for cryptocurrencies, particularly after the inauguration of President Donald Trump, who has established the most pro-crypto administration thus far. However, ongoing political tensions—including Trump's tariff strategies and the recent government shutdown, lasting a historic 43 days—have contributed to several rapid price pullbacks for Bitcoin throughout the year. Market dynamics are also being influenced by Bitcoin whales—investors holding large amounts of Bitcoin—who have been offloading portions of their assets, consequently stalling price rallies even as positive regulatory developments emerge. Despite these sell-offs, analysts from Glassnode argue that this behavior aligns with typical patterns seen among long-term investors during the concluding stages of bull markets, suggesting it is not indicative of a mass exodus. Notably, Bitcoin is not alone in its struggles, as Ethereum and Solana have also recorded declines of 7.95% and 28.3%, respectively, since the start of the year, while numerous altcoins have faced even steeper losses. Looking ahead, questions linger regarding the viability of the four-year cycle thesis, particularly given the increasing institutional support and regulatory frameworks now in place in the crypto landscape. Matt Hougan, chief investment officer at Bitwise, remains optimistic, suggesting a potential Bitcoin resurgence in 2026 driven by the “debasement trade” thesis and a broader trend toward increased adoption of stablecoins, tokenization, and decentralized finance. Hougan emphasized the soundness of the underlying fundamentals, pointing to a positive outlook for the sector in the longer term.
