Users across multiple regions, including India, Europe, and parts of Africa, report encountering HTTP 500 errors, failed login attempts, frozen prompts, and complete site downtime. Reportedly, ChatGPT and Gemini are also down.

However, ChatGPT and Gemini have both resumed operations, despite isolated user complaints that do not point to systemic failure.

The company confirmed it is actively investigating the issue. Early reports suggest the primary web interface is affected, while API access and services such as Claude Code remain operational.

Users frame the outage as a productivity crisis, highlighting how deeply embedded AI assistants have become in daily workflows.

The timing has prompted commentary online, particularly given recent debates surrounding AI ethics, military contracts, and user-driven “cancel ChatGPT” narratives.

While there is no evidence linking those developments to today’s technical issue, the optics have not gone unnoticed.

Historically, similar Claude outages have been resolved within one to two hours, though Anthropic has not yet provided an estimated time to resolution. Users are advised to monitor the company’s status page for live updates or temporarily shift to alternative AI platforms.

Notwithstanding, today’s disruption reflects a broader reality: AI tools are no longer experimental novelties. Rather, they are critical infrastructure.
