CEO Of UnitedHealthcare fatally shot in Manhattan - Report

Investing.com -- According to reports Wednesday, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare (a unit of UnitedHealth Group (NYSE:UNH)) was fatally shot in Midtown, New York City, on Wednesday morning.

A report from PIX11 states that Brian Thompson, 50, was shot just before 7 am. It adds that he was rushed to an area hospital before later passing away.

Thompson, who became CEO of UnitedHealthcare in 2021 after joining UnitedHealth Group in 2004, was said to be in New York City for an investors meeting at a hotel. Bloomberg reported that the Investor Day event has been halted.

PIX11 added that the shooting is "being investigated as a possibly targeted hit, sources said." The New York Post reported that a masked man was allegedly waiting for Thompson before he fired at the CEO repeatedly and fled.
