On its Q3 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 26, 2026, Rambus (NASDAQ:RMBS) reported record quarterly revenue of $218 million, driven by growing demand for server memory chips.

As artificial intelligence workloads accelerate server upgrades, memory bandwidth limits have made high-speed memory chipsets and security design blocks essential hardware components. Managing power and data flow at higher memory speeds positions chip designers to capture durable, high-margin product sales.

Three key insights from management illustrate how the business navigates this memory expansion.

1. Server Memory Chipset Demand Drives Record Product Revenue

Product revenue climbed 22% year over year to $114 million, driven by adoption of DDR5 registered clock drivers (RCDs, specialized chips on server memory sticks that manage and clean up instructions sent from the processor to memory). Server platforms are expanding from 8 memory channels to 12 or 16 channels. This shift increases the number of memory modules and control chips required per system.

Our leadership in DDR5 RCDs and growing adoption of new generation products fueled our record results. We are seeing strong demand across multiple generations of RCDs...
-- Luc Seraphin, President and Chief Executive Officer

2. Power Management Portfolio Expands Into Next Generation LPDDR6 Memory

Rambus introduced a power management integrated circuit (PMIC, a chip regulating module voltage) for LPDDR6 server memory architectures. Power efficiency is critical for scaling artificial intelligence operations. Extending power management chips across new memory specifications broadens Rambus's addressable content per server module.

This new PMIC solution extends our server memory product road map to LPDDR6 and reinforces our leadership in advanced server memory power management.

3. Custom AI Silicon Growth Accelerates High Margin IP Licensing

Cloud providers and chipmakers are designing custom chips optimized for artificial intelligence. This wave of custom silicon expands demand for high-speed memory interfaces and security blocks. Silicon intellectual property (IP, reusable chip design blocks) licensing delivers steady, high-margin cash flows and provides Rambus with early architectural visibility into future data center design trends.

The expansion of AI is fueling a new wave of custom silicon development. Hyperscalers, AI infrastructure providers and emerging semiconductor companies are designing increasingly differentiated architectures and tailored silicon optimized for their own environments.
-- Luc Seraphin, President and Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Data center memory demands are expanding, and Rambus is increasing inventory to support customer product ramps while maintaining disciplined capital allocation.

Capital allocation remains a key priority for us. We intend to continue investing in the business while returning 40% to 50% of free cash flows to shareholders over time, supported by our strong balance sheet and continued cash generation.
-- Sumeet Gagneja, Chief Financial Officer
