On its third quarter of 2026 earnings conference call, held on Oct. 29, 2026, Mastercard (NYSE:MA) announced 14% year-over-year net revenue growth and an 18% increase in net income on a currency-neutral basis. The performance highlights how the company expands beyond traditional payment processing into high-margin security, analytics, and emerging payment technologies. Three key takeaways stand out for long-term investors.

1. Value-Added Services Drive Margin Expansion and Business Differentiation

Value-added services and solutions, including cybersecurity, fraud prevention, and analytics, grew 19% year-over-year on a currency-neutral basis. These non-network offerings create higher customer retention while enhancing payment volume across the network.

So that ability to have payment volume where we can then apply services, and the services then create the differentiation, that's the flywheel effect, and we're very proud of this business model.
-- Ling Hai, Chief Financial Officer

2. Security Architecture Positions the Network for Artificial Intelligence Transactions

Artificial intelligence, or AI, enables software agents to autonomously discover and purchase products for consumers. Mastercard builds verified tokenization tools to protect these automated payments rather than relying on temporary virtual card numbers.

For this type of agentic commerce to function at scale, we need four things. Trust in the payment, the agent, the ecosystem, and ubiquitous reach.
-- Michael Miebach, Chief Executive Officer

3. Infrastructure Acquisition Connects Traditional Fiat Currencies With Digital Assets

The acquisition of the corporate digital asset platform BVNK enables financial institutions to bridge fiat currencies and stablecoins, digital tokens pegged to traditional currencies. The combined platform integrates with Mastercard Move, a money transfer service that reaches 17 billion endpoints.

Through BVNK, we are expanding the infrastructure that connects stablecoins with traditional payment and money movement experiences.
-- Michael Miebach, Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Consumer spending and transaction volumes remain stable across global markets. Strategic expansion into global merchant acceptance points, embedded mobile wallets, and enterprise security platforms reinforces network effects and switching costs. Management tracks international spend trajectories and project delivery timelines to ensure consistent revenue growth.

Our business fundamentals are strong, and we continue to deliver solid growth across both our payment network and value-added services and solutions.
-- Ling Hai, Chief Financial Officer

Expanding physical and digital access points while embedding artificial intelligence fraud protections secures long-term market leadership.

We are expanding the reach and utility of our network, solidifying differentiation.
-- Michael Miebach, Chief Executive Officer
