Trump keeps lying about everything every day – Could there be any real consequences for that?

President Donald Trump sat down with NBC News and told more lies in one hour than most people tell in a lifetime.

The interview aired just days after his first 100 days back in the White House, and Kristen Welker threw him questions on every major topic—crypto, tariffs, gas prices, Medicaid, and the border.

In return, Trump answered with false claims, made-up numbers, and outright BS. The interview took place on “Meet the Press,” where Welker pressed Trump on whether he’s using the presidency for personal gain, whether the economy is actually improving, and if he understands the Constitution.

According to NBC itself, the conversation exposed how far Trump is willing to go to rewrite reality—on camera, in office, and without a second thought. He must be so admirable to sociopaths everywhere.

Trump misleads on prices, profits, and fake wins

On inflation, Trump said, “I was able to get down the costs… oil is down, gasoline is down, groceries are down, eggs.” Then he added, “Even mortgage rates are going down.” That’s a lie.

He also claimed, “Did you see gasoline is now below, in many cases, in many states, below $2 a gallon?” That’s also false. The cheapest state average is $2.66, and the national average is $3.18, according to AAA.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics did report that inflation cooled to 2.4% in March, dropping from 2.8% the previous month. But that trend started under Biden.

A separate reading that excludes food and energy showed a 2.8% annual rise—still the lowest since March 2021. But groceries are not cheaper, eggs are still high, and retail prices haven’t moved in the way Trump claimed.

Meanwhile, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage sits at 6.76%, the same as late last year. There’s been no dramatic drop. He also said automakers would “make a fortune” from tariffs. General Motors doesn’t agree. CEO Mary Barra said in a letter to investors that the new tariffs might wipe out $5 billion in profits. Other carmakers are still unsure. Some have praised the structure of the tariffs, but all say prices are likely to rise this summer.

When Welker asked about whether he’s profiting off the presidency, Trump said, “I’m not profiting from anything.” She asked again, specifically about his $TRUMP crypto token, which netted him and his team nearly $900,000 in just two days.

“I haven’t even looked,” he replied. He added, “If I own stock in something, and I do a good job, and the stock market goes up, I guess I’m profiting.” About 80% of the token supply is owned by Trump and his allies. The token spiked more than 50% after a website announcement offered dinner with Trump to the top 220 holders.

Ethics experts said that the whole setup breached government standards, but there’s no law yet that makes this illegal. Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff want the US Office of Government Ethics to investigate. Republican allies have started to show discomfort. This isn’t the first time the Trump family has been accused of cashing in while in office.

Trump also made a big claim about new investments: “We have… close to $9 trillion.” There’s no data to back that up. The White House says around $5 trillion is the real number. That includes pledges from Apple, NVIDIA, Oracle, and SoftBank. But most of those announcements were recycled from older deals or still in the early stages. They’re not locked in.

On trade, Trump said the US lost “5 to 6 billion dollars a day” under Biden’s trade deficit. That’s another made-up figure. The actual 2024 trade deficit was around $918 billion. If you divide that across the year, it comes to about $2.5 billion a day—not six. Also, experts have made it clear: a trade deficit doesn’t mean the country is “losing money.” That’s not how international trade works, but Trump keeps repeating it anyway.

Trump fumbles Medicaid cuts and lies about investments

On Medicaid, Welker asked if Trump would veto a tax bill that included cuts. “Well, we’re not doing that,” he said. Then he added, “I would if they were cutting it, but they’re not cutting it.” He insisted there would be no cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security.

But House Republicans are split. Some want to reduce the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage, which would push costs onto states. The bill isn’t public yet, so it’s unclear where the GOP will land.

Trump said his Department of Government Efficiency saved $160 billion by cutting fraud, but nobody can verify the number. Even Elon Musk admitted DOGE has made errors. And a nonprofit report said DOGE’s actions—firings, rehirings, and lost time—could cost $135 billion this year. That would cancel out the savings.

At the end of the interview, Welker brought up the 2020 election. Trump said, “The election was rigged — the facts are in, and it’s still being litigated.” That’s a lie. He filed more than 60 lawsuits and lost them all.

Courts across the country rejected his claims and he has provided exactly zero proofs backing them, while his opposition has presented plenty, with most of them gotten from his own so-called supporters. It might be a nightmare, but the reality is: the leader of the free world is a pathological liar.
