Former Binance CEO CZ teases TST style AI agent days after Broccoli memecoin launch

Changpeng Zhao (CZ) may have retired from Binance as CEO, but he is still very much involved in crypto. The former CEO recently expressed interest in AI agents earlier today, only days after the frenzy brought on by the Broccoli memecoin.

On February 16, 2025, Changpeng Zhao took to X, formerly Twitter, with a post teasing that the BNB Chain team is working on releasing a video tutorial for creating AI agents, using a screenshot of the popular DeFi analytics and aggregation platform, DeFiLlama.

This move is in alignment with BNB Chain’s 2025 roadmap, which focuses on AI integration, including incorporating native AI agents for wallets to aid trading and other tasks.

CZ teases AI agents after Broccoli memecoin surge

The Broccoli memecoin launched earlier this month, inspired by CZ revealing his dog’s name on X. After the revelation, degens swung into action, creating numerous memecoins via platforms like Solana’s Pump.fun (which saw 480+ Broccoli related coins created) and BNB’s Four.meme (300+ coins).

One Solana-based Broccoli meme ran up to a $1.5 billion market cap on February 13, 2025, while another that launched on the BNB Chain crossed $90 million. Through it all, CZ has remained adamant about not personally launching a coin and leaving it to the community to decide.

The original coin on Four.meme, launched with a contract address shared on X, saw wild price fluctuations between the $3 million and $55 million market cap.

Changpeng Zhao and AI agents

While all eyes are on the Broccoli memecoins and the recent TST token listing on Binance, which CZ has clarified he didn’t endorse, CZ seems to be focusing on AI agents. The new focus hints at his desire for utility-oriented blockchain projects over the current memecoin hype.

Netizens on X also seem to be speculating that the upcoming AI agent tutorial could shift market focus, potentially impacting memecoin trading volumes.

Of course, if BSC decides to start hosting AI agents, it will have some serious catching up to do, considering the progress that has been made regarding these agents over the past couple of months.

When CZ tweeted about the tutorial in the works, one user commented, pointing out that it was too late to join the trend and advised CZ to focus on enjoying his time out of jail instead.

CZ responded by saying he had enough rest while in jail then he added: “Being late is not a problem. We keep building.”

While CZ is not giving too much away about BSC’s future plans, that statement suggests that he is interested in supporting the proliferation of AI agents on BSC.

When one user replied to his tweet about being late by saying people do not understand what he means, CZ offered this cryptic response: “They don’t need to. And later, we say, we got lucky!”

Bitcoin briefly loses 2025 gains as crypto plunges over the weekend.Bitcoin experienced a sharp decline this weekend, briefly erasing its 2025 gains and dipping below its year-opening value of $93,507. The cryptocurrency fell to a low of $93,029 on Sunday, representing a 25% drop from its all-time high in October. Although it has rebounded slightly to around $94,209, the pressures on the market remain significant. The downturn occurred despite the reopening of the U.S. government on Thursday, which many had hoped would provide essential support for crypto markets. This year initially appeared promising for cryptocurrencies, particularly after the inauguration of President Donald Trump, who has established the most pro-crypto administration thus far. However, ongoing political tensions—including Trump's tariff strategies and the recent government shutdown, lasting a historic 43 days—have contributed to several rapid price pullbacks for Bitcoin throughout the year. Market dynamics are also being influenced by Bitcoin whales—investors holding large amounts of Bitcoin—who have been offloading portions of their assets, consequently stalling price rallies even as positive regulatory developments emerge. Despite these sell-offs, analysts from Glassnode argue that this behavior aligns with typical patterns seen among long-term investors during the concluding stages of bull markets, suggesting it is not indicative of a mass exodus. Notably, Bitcoin is not alone in its struggles, as Ethereum and Solana have also recorded declines of 7.95% and 28.3%, respectively, since the start of the year, while numerous altcoins have faced even steeper losses. Looking ahead, questions linger regarding the viability of the four-year cycle thesis, particularly given the increasing institutional support and regulatory frameworks now in place in the crypto landscape. Matt Hougan, chief investment officer at Bitwise, remains optimistic, suggesting a potential Bitcoin resurgence in 2026 driven by the “debasement trade” thesis and a broader trend toward increased adoption of stablecoins, tokenization, and decentralized finance. Hougan emphasized the soundness of the underlying fundamentals, pointing to a positive outlook for the sector in the longer term.
