Horde mode, boss replays, and new gear in Black Myth: Wukong’s update

Black Myth Wukong released a major update that saw the game add new challenges and a new game mode. Gamers can earn rewards such as new armor, weapons, and consumables by playing these new challenges and modes. The update also added more content, such as new game soundtracks, while fixing bugs.

After being released in August 2024, Black Myth: Wukong has gone on a record-breaking run, which saw it win the Ultimate Game of the Year in 2024. However, despite leaving its mark on the gaming scene, Game Science continued to engage gamers by adding more content to the role-player game. 

Game Science introduces new challenges and game mode

Game Science released a new update that added new features to the game. The update features “Challenges” at any Keeper’s Shrine. The Destined One can opt for either a “Return of Rivals” or a “Gauntlet of Legends” challenge.

In Return of Rivals, gamers can face off against former opponents in a duel with three difficulty options. However, the option only applies to opponents defeated in the main game. Undefeated opponents will be unavailable.

Gamers can also now play against multiple opponents in succession for the Gauntlet of Legends challenge. The challenges’ difficulty can be adjusted using customized curses. Game Science stated that opponents may have new moves. Just like the Return of Rivals challenges, undefeated opponents in the main game will not be available.

Completing any gauntlet challenge will allow gamers to earn rewards such as Glimmering Scale pellets (medicine), sour wine, Robust Antler (drinks and soaks), Stone Tiger Tally (curios), Three Hill Crown (equipment), and the Qing Mallet, Fanged Cyan Staff and Leeching Centipede Staff (weapons).

The update also included Journeyer’s Charts. The chart enables gamers to organize conquered areas for guidance and marking. The update also brings the Armor Set of Opulence as an early Chinese New Year gift. The armor can be claimed through Trailblazer’s Gift at any Keeper’s Shrine.

Game Science also added Wukong’s Soundtrack Selection as an application. However, some of the tracks are unavailable due to copyright restrictions. The update also fixed several bugs in the prior versions of the game.

Game Science delivers on Black Myth: Wukong promise

After winning the Ultimate Game of the Year Award at the Golden Joystick Awards in November, during the acceptance speech, Feng Ji, Game Science’s founder, promised gamers that a surprise was coming before the year ended.

True to his word, the Chinese game development studio released an update with new features and challenges. Before the update’s release, most gamers speculated that the surprise promised was a reference to the game getting its first DLC. 

Gamers online broke down the new features and content once the update was released. Some gamers were grateful that the update was available for free and that its contents were positive additions to the game’s original version.

However, a section of PlayStation 5 gamers complained about not getting a patch. A smaller section of gamers stated that they were still hopeful that Game Science would announce a DLC.
