Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Media and Electronic&Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.49% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX), which rose 3.91% or 290.00 points to trade at 7,700.00 at the close. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) added 3.71% or 105.00 points to end at 2,937.00 and Bunzl PLC (LON:BNZL) was up 2.72% or 94.00 points to 3,556.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Londonmetric Property Plc (LON:LMPL), which lost 3.45% or 7.10 points to trade at 198.90 in late trade. Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) declined 1.92% or 16.80 points to end at 860.20 and Unite Group PLC (LON:UTG) shed 1.87% or 18.00 points to 945.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 990 to 773 and 713 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.54% or 13.80 to $2,551.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.83% or 1.36 to hit $75.88 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.38% or 1.07 to trade at $78.65 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.32, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.26% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 101.28.
