Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that it will completely shut the strait if US President Donald Trump proceeds with his threats to target Iranian energy facilities, the Guardian reported on Monday.
This statement came as Trump has given Iran 48 hours to reopen the strait of Hormuz to shipping or face the destruction of its energy infrastructure. Separately, an Iranian source told CNN that Tehran is moving forward with monetizing control of the critical waterway.
Market reaction
Crude oil prices edge higher following this headline. At the time of writing, the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is up 0.24% on the day at $97.35.
