Consolidated sales grew by a high single-digit percentage in the quarter.
Management expects $75 million in structural cost savings in 2027.
New residential sales grew in the low single digits while market completions dropped.
On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 27, 2026, Sherwin-Williams (NYSE:SHW) reported 8% consolidated sales growth despite soft demand across its end markets. For long-term shareholders, the paint manufacturer's ability to maintain pricing discipline and expand market share during industry downturns protects earnings power until construction activity recovers. Three takeaways from management's comments stand out for long-term investors.
Management implemented an 8% price increase in its Paint Stores Group on Sept. 1 to offset rising raw material and supply chain expenses. Full realization of higher prices takes two quarters, setting the stage for margin expansion in early 2027.
The 8% price increase that became effective September 1 is tracking as planned and is expected to ramp up to our historical realization range in the first half of next year.

The company is streamlining operations and reducing administrative expenses to protect profitability during extended periods of sluggish demand. Restructuring steps taken over consecutive quarters will permanently lower expense burdens.
We expect cost savings of approximately $75 million in 2027 inclusive of $25 million related to the restructuring actions taken in this year's second and third quarters as well as cost actions currently under review in the fourth quarter.

Sherwin-Williams continues winning new contractor accounts in its residential repaint and new home construction segments. Higher sales-rep counts and store expansion allow it to outpace broader market trends even as single-family home completions fall.
In Q3, our single family completions, down high single digits on average in the market, and Sherwin's new res was up low single digits. So that just goes to show you we continue to take share there.
-- Heidi G. Petz, Chair, President, and Chief Executive Officer
End-market demand remains choppy across most industrial and residential categories, with conditions remaining slow into 2027.
From a demand perspective, we expect a continuation of softer for longer with continued choppiness across most end markets.
-- Heidi G. Petz, Chair, President, and Chief Executive Officer
Rather than waiting for a macro recovery, the company relies on its proprietary store network, switching costs, and pricing discipline while monitoring input cost inflation. Executive focus remains on structural cost control to maximize operating leverage when market volumes recover.
We are confident that we are a fundamentally stronger company today than the one that entered this cycle.
