TradingKey - On Oct. 27 Eastern Time, the three major US stock indices closed higher across the board, with the Nasdaq and S&P 500 rising for the second consecutive trading session. AI-related stocks continued to lead gains, with Broadcom (AVGO) participating in a $63 billion computing power financing facility that boosted the semiconductor sector. Meanwhile, international oil prices continued to retreat, while gold (XAUUSD) moved higher. As the Federal Reserve policy meeting got underway, market attention shifted to the upcoming interest rate decision and tech giants' earnings reports.

As of the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.03% to 52,383.25 points; the S&P 500 Index gained 0.60% to 7,722.60 points; and the Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 1.18% to 26,477.81 points.

In terms of sectors and individual stocks, Broadcom rose 4%, Nvidia (NVDA) gained 0.9%, and cloud computing provider CoreWeave (CRWV) surged 7.94%. Earnings-reporting stocks showed mixed performance, with United Parcel Service (UPS) rising 5.75%, while Boeing (BA) plunged 10.69% as production and delivery targets came under pressure.

In commodities, oil prices fell for the second consecutive trading session, with Brent crude (UKOIL) closing at $109.73; WTI crude (USOIL) fell 1.02% to close at $100.21, dropping back below $100. Expectations of de-escalation from diplomatic engagement in the Middle East dampened some risk premium, but energy facilities and shipping security remained key market concerns. Gold rose 1.08% to close at $4,060.32. Falling oil prices eased some inflation concerns, providing support for gold as the market awaits the Federal Reserve's decision for further clarity on the interest rate outlook.

In cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin (BTC) climbed back above $80,000 to close at $80,909, up 0.95%.

Market News

The $63 billion AI compute financing plan continues to unfold, supporting Anthropic's deployment of Broadcom chips. Bank of America (BAC), Blackstone (BX), Citigroup (C), and Morgan Stanley (MS) announced financing arrangements on October 26 to procure Broadcom AI accelerators and networking equipment through a special-purpose entity and lease them to Anthropic. Deliveries of the related equipment are expected to begin in 2027, with Broadcom providing partial residual value support.

Boeing is expected to miss its 737 delivery target for this year, with production progress under scrutiny. Boeing management stated during Tuesday's earnings call that the company will fail to meet its original 2026 delivery target for the 737, and that production ramp-up progress faces delays. The news drove the stock down by over 10%, making it one of the main drags on the Dow that day.

US Consumer Confidence Index rose to 91.7 in October, with the previous reading revised up to 84.2. The Conference Board reported that the Consumer Confidence Index rose 7.5 points in October from September, with the Present Situation Index rising to 120.4 and the Expectations Index rebounding to 72.6. Consumers' views on current business conditions and future prospects improved, but the survey still showed that high prices continue to impact future consumption plans.

General Motors announces listing transfer to Nasdaq, with trading expected to begin on November 17. General Motors (GM) announced plans to transfer its listing from the New York Stock Exchange to the Nasdaq Global Select Market, with its ticker symbol remaining unchanged. The company expects to cease NYSE trading after the close on November 16 and begin trading on Nasdaq the following day; the transfer will also make it eligible for future inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 Index.
