At a price of $80,000, Bitcoin is trading significantly above its 200-week moving average of $67,000.
Bitcoin continues to see rising rates of institutional adoption.
If market sentiment improves, Bitcoin could hit the $100,000 price point within the next 12 months.
According to Michael Saylor, founder and executive chairman of Bitcoin treasury company Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR), the next Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) bull market cycle has already started. That's music to the ears of patient crypto investors, who have been waiting more than a year for Bitcoin to regain its upward ascent.
If all goes according to plan, Bitcoin could be headed to the $100,000 price level sooner than anyone expected. Here's why.

Over the past decade, crypto investors have noticed a handful of key indicators that can help to predict when Bitcoin will begin its next bull market rally. One of these is the 200-week moving average. If Bitcoin can climb significantly above its 200-week moving average for a prolonged period of time, the thinking goes, then it's likely off to the races.

The 200-week moving average is the one metric that Saylor specifically cited in recent comments about Bitcoin. Given that the typical Bitcoin market cycle lasts approximately 4 years, using a 200-week average (3.8 years) makes a fair amount of sense. Historically, it has marked the floor for a Bitcoin bear market. Right now, the 200-week moving average for Bitcoin is $67,000, while the current price of Bitcoin is $80,000.
The problem, though, is that Bitcoin no longer has any obvious catalysts to push it higher heading into 2027. Passage of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act was supposed to send Bitcoin sharply higher, but Congress fumbled that ball in September, and it didn't pass.
Moreover, overall macroeconomic indicators remain weak. Oil prices are increasing, inflation is surging, and Treasury yields are rising. It now looks like the Federal Reserve will raise rates, not lower them, further compounding the pessimistic macro outlook.
With that in mind, the primary catalyst for Bitcoin remains institutional adoption. As long as banks and financial institutions embrace Bitcoin, institutional investors keep putting money into Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and digital asset treasury companies keep buying Bitcoin, the price should rise.
Saylor did not set a specific Bitcoin price target for 2027. He merely noted that he thinks there's a high likelihood of Bitcoin hitting $100,000 within the next 12 months.
But let's think really big. What if Bitcoin can reclaim its all-time high of $126,000 from October 2025? That might sound improbable, but Wall Street investment firm Bernstein continues to bang the table for a price of $150,000, and some investors still cling to the idea that Bitcoin will hit $200,000 next year.
Right now, there is a tremendous amount of fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) in the crypto market. The good news is that much of that should dissipate as soon as the midterm elections are over. If that's the case, then congressional lawmakers can get back to the business of passing comprehensive new crypto legislation, and Bitcoin can get back to the business of delivering market-beating returns for investors.
