On its third quarter of 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 14, 2026, State Street (NYSE:STT) reported a 33% year-over-year increase in per-share earnings to $3.69 and 13% year-over-year growth in total revenue to $4 billion. Fee-based revenue and interest margin expansion demonstrate that scale and pricing power are driving operating efficiency. Three key takeaways from management's comments highlight the long-term outlook.

1. Wealth Management Services Gain Traction With Large Registered Investment Advisors

State Street expanded its reach into servicing registered investment advisors (RIAs), or independent wealth management firms, by pairing its front-office software with custody services. Winning large advisor mandates validates its strategy to capture growing individual investor asset pools.

During the third quarter, we secured a servicing mandate from one of the largest RIAs in the United States, an important validation of both the market opportunity and our value proposition.
-- Ronald O'Hanley, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

2. Alternative Asset Servicing Expands Across Complex Private Markets

Demand for private credit and alternative asset administration continues to accelerate as institutional portfolios diversify. The company uses specialized software and administrative capabilities to capture higher-margin private market servicing fees.

Alternative servicing fees grew at a double-digit rate year-over-year in the third quarter, reflecting solid growth across private markets and strong client activity.
-- Ronald O'Hanley, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

3. Net Interest Margin Expansion Drives Operating Leverage

Higher yields on interest-earning assets expanded net interest income, or the spread earned between interest assets and funding liabilities. Combined with disciplined productivity controls, higher interest income allowed revenue growth to outpace expense growth, thereby strengthening operating leverage.

Net interest income of $864 million increased 21% year-over-year in the third quarter, driven primarily by continued net interest margin expansion and supported by growth in the average interest-earning assets as well.
-- John Woods, Chief Financial Officer

Looking Ahead

Revenue momentum is accelerating across custody, market services, and asset management, and management isn't hiding its satisfaction about full-year operating leverage. Massive global scale, integrated software platforms, and sticky client relationships position the business to capture higher fee revenue over time. Executive focus remains on pricing discipline, deposit retention, and technology execution.

Taken together, we expect to deliver over 500 basis points of positive operating leverage in 2026.
-- John Woods, Chief Financial Officer

With assets under custody and administration reaching a record $59.2 trillion and digital initiatives advancing, the strategic foundation supports long-term value creation.

Quarter after quarter, our results continue to validate that our strategy is working and delivering consistent, durable improvement in financial performance.
-- Ronald O'Hanley, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
