Kioxia Shares Rise Nearly 6% After Launch of GP1 Series High-Performance SSDs

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - On August 3, Eastern Time, at the FMS 2026 Flash Memory Summit in California, USA, Kioxia officially released the KIOXIA GP1 series PCIe 6.0 NVMe solid-state drive, which is the first product of the GP series ultra-high IOPS SSDs.

Boosted by this news, Kioxia's stock price rose nearly 6% on the day to close at 52,090 yen (equivalent to $330.4).

The KIOXIA GP1 series adopts Kioxia's second-generation XL-FLASH™ Storage Class Memory, achieving a robust random read performance of up to 10 million (10M) IOPS (512-byte block size), offering overwhelming speed and low-power advantages over traditional TLC SSDs. Furthermore, this new architecture possesses the foundational potential for future ultimate scaling to 100 million (100M) IOPS in its long-term design.

In terms of the hardware ecosystem, the product natively supports PCIe 6.0 and NVMe 2.2 specifications, offering two enterprise form factors: E3.S and E1.S (9.5mm/15mm). Among these, the E3.S and E1.S 9.5mm models are fully compatible with cold-plate liquid cooling, while other models can be stably deployed in traditional air-cooled servers, with system endurance reaching up to 50 DWPD.

The GP1 series targets a new direction: introducing high-speed flash memory media into graphics memory systems, allowing GPUs to directly access flash-based memory expansion layers.

Currently, AI systems are generally limited by HBM capacity, and the expansion costs are extremely high. Kioxia's solution allows AI systems to use high-speed flash memory as a supplementary tier for HBM, accessing larger datasets at a cost far lower than increasing HBM capacity, while improving GPU utilization efficiency.

Neville Ichhaporia, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the SSD Business Unit at Kioxia America, stated: 'The AI memory wall is a critical challenge that our industry must address in scaling AI deployments and increasing their capabilities. Kioxia XL-FLASH can provide the extremely high performance and low-latency data access required for GPUs as a memory expansion layer, with per-GB costs significantly lower than expanding in-node HBM or DRAM capacity. KIOXIA GP1 is a breakthrough product that will foster entirely new AI memory topologies.'

Kioxia plans to begin delivering GP1 series evaluation samples to select customers by the end of 2026, and actual mass production specifications may be adjusted.
