On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 21, 2026, Orrstown (NASDAQ:ORRF) reported net income of $22.8 million. That quarterly profit shows how effectively the financial institution generates earnings while expanding its commercial lending portfolio. Three things management said stand out.

The bank completed its merger with Codorus Valley in 2024, which generated temporary purchase accounting accretion (purchase accounting accretion: income recognized when acquired loans are paid off above their discounted valuation). Management is replacing those expiring accounting adjustments with organic commercial loan growth and disciplined loan pricing. Excluding purchase accounting effects, core loan interest income (interest income: revenue earned from loans and investment securities) expanded quarter over quarter, demonstrating that organic originations can sustain top-line revenue.

Our interest income on loans, excluding purchase accounting accretion, was $62.6 million for the third quarter of 2026, compared to $59.0 million in the second quarter.
-- Neil Kalani, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

2. Conservative Stress Testing Shows Resilient Commercial Credit

Higher borrowing costs across the economy can create repayment strain on commercial and industrial (C&I) loans (credit extended to businesses for working capital or capital expenditures). Management proactively evaluated its commercial loan portfolio under conservative stress testing scenarios. The analysis confirmed that credit metrics remain resilient, with zero anticipated credit rating downgrades or loan losses.

We've stressed the entire C&I portfolio under our most conservative stress test. The portfolio metrics still hold up within our tolerance ranges.
-- Neil Kalani, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

3. Tech and Hiring Investments Target Disciplined Efficiency Gains

Management continues to reinvest back-office expense savings into frontline sales talent and modern technology infrastructure. The bank improved its efficiency ratio (operating expenses divided by net revenue; lower percentages indicate better productivity) to 56% in the third quarter. That cost control provides financial flexibility to fund strategic hires while keeping the overall annual expense run rate contained.

The efficiency ratio came down to 56% in the third quarter, and on an annualized basis, I am projecting the expense run rate to be between $153 million and $157 million.
-- Neil Kalani, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Looking Ahead

Commercial activity is expanding across the footprint. That momentum reinforces executive confidence in high-margin relationship lending. Strong wealth management revenue and relationship-centric banking provide steady fee income while leadership tracks deposit competition.

Our core banking and wealth management business are all contributing to growth, while credit quality, capital levels, and expense discipline remain favorable.
-- Adam Metz, President and Chief Executive Officer

A relationship-focused approach keeps funding costs manageable while the bank invests in digital tools to drive core loan growth.

Although the economic interest rate and competitive environments remain dynamic, we enter the remainder of the year from a position of strength and remain confident in our ability to execute across a range of economic conditions.
-- Adam Metz, President and Chief Executive Officer
