On its September 2026 quarterly earnings call, held on Oct. 21, 2026, Lam Research (NASDAQ:LRCX) reported record quarterly revenue and profitability. Artificial intelligence workloads drive higher semiconductor complexity and boost demand for wafer fab equipment, which is the capital machinery used to manufacture chips. This structural shift expands the addressable market and creates long-term opportunities across memory and logic markets. Three key takeaways from the call stand out for long-term investors.

1. Advanced Dry Resist Technology Elevates Long-Term Revenue Projections

Lam Research is seeing increased adoption of its Aether dry resist technology, an advanced tool used for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography patterning in chip manufacturing. Customer demand for high bandwidth memory and logic chips led management to raise its cumulative revenue forecast for the product line by $1 billion.

As a result, we now expect cumulative Aether-related revenue to reach approximately $2.5 billion by the end of the decade, roughly $1 billion above our prior expectations.
-- Tim Archer, President and Chief Executive Officer

2. Maintenance and Service Division Growth Doubles Long-Term Targets

The Customer Support Business Group (CSBG), which provides maintenance, spare parts, and equipment upgrades for installed tools, is expanding rapidly as chipmakers run factories at high utilization rates. Full-year division growth is projected to reach more than twice its long-term target, supported by performance-based contracts and automation software.

Finally, turning to CSBG, we are set to exit calendar year 2026 with solid momentum, with annual revenue expected to grow more than 30% year-over-year.
-- Tim Archer, President and Chief Executive Officer

3. AI Storage Architecture Shift Drives Additional NAND Wafer Capacity

Artificial intelligence models are forcing a redesign of flash memory storage tiers and creating demand for single-level cell (SLC) NAND, a low-latency memory format. Because SLC stores fewer bits per cell, chipmakers require significantly more wafer manufacturing capacity to deliver equivalent storage volume.

Said differently, for each percentage point mix shift of NAND bits to SLC class devices, approximately 2% more installed wafer capacity will be needed to support the same bit demand.
-- Tim Archer, President and Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Artificial intelligence adoption is accelerating across enterprise and consumer markets and driving unprecedented demand for semiconductor manufacturing tools.

Underpinning our outlook for WFE growth is the continued rapid adoption of AI by enterprises and consumers.
-- Tim Archer, President and Chief Executive Officer

A massive installed base and leadership in deposition and etch steps position the business to capture rising equipment intensity as chip designs shift to 3D scaling. Management is focused on resolving near-term supply chain constraints while expanding global manufacturing capacity to support long-term industry growth.

Our technology leadership, growing installed base, and strategic investments in product innovation and manufacturing capacity position Lam to capitalize on these inflections and drive sustained outperformance.
-- Tim Archer, President and Chief Executive Officer
