Micron Stock Price Forecast: Can MU Stock Keep Rising as Memory Shortage May Extend to 2027 and Shares Target $1,000?

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - As of August 17 Eastern Time, Micron Technology (MU) rose 4.13% for the day to close at $1,011.75, reclaiming the $1,000 mark. Since falling to a low of $737.88 on July 29, Micron's stock price has rebounded by about 37%, but still has roughly 20% upside potential to its all-time high of $1,254.80 set on June 25.

Micron Sees Memory Shortage Extending Beyond 2027 as AI Demand Remains Core Stock Support

Recently, Micron's management offered a relatively positive assessment of supply and demand dynamics in the memory market.

At the KeyBanc Technology Leadership Forum, Micron's Chief Commercial Officer stated that AI-driven memory demand is growing rapidly, and the supply environment in 2027 could be even tighter than in 2026, with supply shortages potentially persisting beyond 2027.

The primary reason behind this comes from AI servers. AI servers require not only vast amounts of HBM, but also more conventional DRAM. More

importantly, HBM itself consumes more wafer capacity. According to disclosures from Micron, producing 1 bit of HBM3E consumes roughly the same wafer capacity as producing 3 bits of conventional DDR memory. This means that as memory makers allocate more capacity to higher-margin HBM, the supply of standard DRAM will be further constrained.

Bank of America, citing TrendForce forecasts, stated that server DRAM prices are expected to rise by about 13% to 18% quarter-over-quarter in the third quarter of 2026. Recently, SanDisk also projected that DRAM and NAND prices still have significant room to rise in the third and fourth quarters, reinforcing market expectations regarding the duration of the earnings upcycle for the entire memory sector.

For Micron's stock price, memory manufacturers possess high operating leverage, meaning that when product prices rise, incremental revenue can quickly translate into gross profit and net income. Therefore, as long as DRAM and HBM supply remains tight, market EPS forecasts for Micron over the coming quarters still face potential upward revisions, providing fundamental support for the stock to retest its previous highs. Conversely, if new capacity comes online earlier than expected and DRAM price gains slow rapidly, the stock may once again face concerns over a cyclical peak.

Micron stock price daily chart, Source: TradingView

Looking at the daily chart of Micron stock, the price movement has shifted from the pullback phase between June and early August into a clear recovery phase. Meanwhile, as the stock price reclaimed the $1,000 mark and broke above the rebound high of $1,011.77 from July 23, bullish momentum in the market was further reinforced.

Currently, the stock price has reached near the 0.236 Fibonacci retracement level of $1,030. Although it rose to $1,036.13 intraday, the closing price remained below $1,030, showing that this level exerts some resistance. If the stock price can break through strongly and consolidate above this level, upside room toward the all-time high of $1,255 will open up.

On the downside, the key support level to watch below is the $1,000 mark. If this level fails to hold, the stock price will enter a period of range-bound consolidation in the short term and may test support near $930–$900. If the decline continues, it could fall further toward around $820.
