The Wall Street Journal reported early Thursday that US President Donald Trump is considering selecting and announcing a successor for Federal Reserve (Fed) Chair Jerome Powell by September or October. According to one of these sources, Trump's ire against Powell may lead to an even earlier announcement this summer.
Trump might consider former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh and National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is being presented to Trump by both men's associates as a possible contender. Quantitative tightening (QT) is the reverse process of QE, whereby the Federal Reserve stops buying bonds from financial institutions and does not reinvest the principal from the bonds it holds maturing, to purchase new bonds. It is usually positive for the value of the US Dollar.
