Bitcoin and Gold Outlook: BTC comes under pressure, XAU rebounds amid US-Iran strikes

Fonte Fxstreet
  • Bitcoin sell-off deepens toward $77,000 support, as geopolitical tensions weigh on market sentiment.
  • Gold recovers after bulls defend key moving-average support, nearing a $4,400 breakout.
  • Iran launches attacks across US military installations in the Middle East in retaliation, intensifying regional geopolitical risks.

Bitcoin (BTC) remains neutral-to-bullish, edging lower near $77,000 support on Wednesday. The largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization has been unable to sustain a recovery after being rejected around $81,500 last Friday. Meanwhile, its downside appears broadly protected due to an established moving average cluster.

Gold (XAU/USD) is gaining momentum near $4,400 following a persistent correction to daily lows of $4,283. A daily close above $4,400 could reinforce a bullish shift ahead of a potential short-term breakout toward $4,700.

Renewed US-Iran strikes fuel risk aversion across markets

Iran is reported to have launched coordinated missile and drone strikes on United States (US) military installations in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq, marking a significant escalation in response to American operations earlier in the week.

According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), recent US strikes on Iran were carried out in retaliation for attempted attacks by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US personnel stationed in the region.

Iranian attacks on US military sites have persisted despite explicit warnings from US President Donald Trump, who cautioned that any retaliation would trigger severe American military responses.

"They will be hit again at a much harder and higher level, but it will not be the biggest attack of them all; that is waiting in the wings and, when it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran," Trump wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday.

Cryptocurrency prices edged lower as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East re-escalated. Despite the Fear & Greed Index holding in the Greed territory at 63 on Wednesday, it has declined from 69 the previous day. This suggests investors are becoming more cautious and may be shifting toward risk aversion.

Technical analysis: Bitcoin bears push to regain control

Bitcoin trades at $77,330, extending losses for the second straight day. Still, the Crypto King holds a clear bullish bias even as the spot price sustains well above the 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs). The clustering of these EMAs below spot reinforces an underlying uptrend structure, even as recent gains have cooled.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) around 65 keeps the market in positive territory, hinting that upside momentum remains constructive despite the latest pullback, while the negative Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) reading suggests buying pressure is moderating rather than accelerating.

BTC/USDT daily chart

Immediate support is seen near $77,000, where buyers recently stepped in. Below that, the 200-day EMA around $72,383 marks a key structural floor, with the 50-day EMA at $70,299 and the 100-day EMA around $69,232 forming a broader demand band that could attract dip-buying if a deeper correction unfolds. With no clear overhead levels on the daily chart, the path of least resistance remains higher as long as BTC holds above these stacked EMAs.

Gold technical analysis: XAU shows signs of recovery

Gold trades at $4,386, hovering just above a dense cluster of moving averages that provides near-term support, but momentum is flattening. The 50-day, 100-day and 200-day EMAs at roughly $4,338, $4,363 and $4,316, respectively, sit beneath spot and suggest the broader uptrend remains intact, yet the MACD has slipped deeper into negative territory and the RSI hovers near 50, hinting at a loss of directional conviction rather than a clear bullish or bearish extension.

XAU/USDT daily chart

Initial support emerges at the 100-day EMA near $4,363, followed by the 50-day EMA around $4,338 and then the 200-day EMA close to $4,316, where buyers are likely to reassess if the pullback extends. On the topside, the next significant hurdle is the downward resistance trendline around $4,545, and only a sustained move above this structural cap would tilt the currently neutral daily bias decisively in favor of the bulls.

Bitcoin, altcoins, stablecoins FAQs

Bitcoin is the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, a virtual currency designed to serve as money. This form of payment cannot be controlled by any one person, group, or entity, which eliminates the need for third-party participation during financial transactions.

Altcoins are any cryptocurrency apart from Bitcoin, but some also regard Ethereum as a non-altcoin because it is from these two cryptocurrencies that forking happens. If this is true, then Litecoin is the first altcoin, forked from the Bitcoin protocol and, therefore, an “improved” version of it.

Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies designed to have a stable price, with their value backed by a reserve of the asset it represents. To achieve this, the value of any one stablecoin is pegged to a commodity or financial instrument, such as the US Dollar (USD), with its supply regulated by an algorithm or demand. The main goal of stablecoins is to provide an on/off-ramp for investors willing to trade and invest in cryptocurrencies. Stablecoins also allow investors to store value since cryptocurrencies, in general, are subject to volatility.

Bitcoin dominance is the ratio of Bitcoin's market capitalization to the total market capitalization of all cryptocurrencies combined. It provides a clear picture of Bitcoin’s interest among investors. A high BTC dominance typically happens before and during a bull run, in which investors resort to investing in relatively stable and high market capitalization cryptocurrency like Bitcoin. A drop in BTC dominance usually means that investors are moving their capital and/or profits to altcoins in a quest for higher returns, which usually triggers an explosion of altcoin rallies.
