On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Nov. 4, 2026, Palmer Square Capital (NYSE:PSBD) announced net investment income, which represents net profit earned from portfolio investments after operating expenses, of $0.38 per share. The business development company, an entity that provides loans to middle-market companies, is prioritizing balance sheet flexibility and disciplined capital allocation to protect shareholder value. Three takeaways from management outline its operational direction.

1. Palmer Square Capital Prioritizes Share Repurchases Over Weak Yields

Management bought back $5.2 million of common stock during the third quarter because shares traded at a discount to net asset value, which is the total value of assets minus liabilities. Repurchasing equity increases per-share ownership for existing shareholders without forcing capital into lower-yielding new debt.

We prioritized share repurchases during the quarter, buying back $5.2 million of PSBD shares under the expanded repurchase program that was announced last quarter.
-- Chris Long, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

2. Debt Refinancing and Facility Downsizing Cut Carrying Costs

The firm reset its collateralized loan obligation, a debt security backed by a pool of corporate loans, to lower its borrowing spread over the Secured Overnight Financing Rate, a benchmark interest rate. It also reduced unused line capacity on its credit facility to trim fee expenses while preserving borrowing liquidity.

Together, these actions help enhance our funding efficiency and reduce carrying costs while preserving liquidity and financial flexibility should M&A activity accelerate.
-- Matt Bloomfield, President

3. Private Credit Offers Better Value Than Syndicated Loans

Direct lending deals offer higher interest spreads compared to broadly syndicated loans, which are large corporate loans structured by banks and sold to institutional investors. Management is focusing capital deployment on private credit and secondary market purchases where risk-adjusted returns remain higher.

Tactically, we currently see better relative value in private credit compared to the syndicated loan market given prevailing spread dynamics.
-- Matt Bloomfield, President

Looking Ahead

Transaction timelines are lengthening as private equity sponsors delay buyouts, keeping new loan issuance subdued. The company is leaning on its first-lien loan backing, low nonaccruals of under 1% of total portfolio cost, and direct sourcing access to protect yields. Meanwhile, management is watching interest rate movements and deal pacing.

From our recent conversations with sponsors, we've heard anecdotally that transaction processes are taking longer to complete and deal time lines are increasingly being extended.
-- Chris Long, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

With leverage reduced to 1.63 times equity and significant unused facility capacity, the company remains positioned to capture high-yielding loan opportunities when private market activity recovers.

We believe the flexibility of our liquid portfolio, combined with our active management approach and line of sight across the leveraged loan market positions us well to execute as market conditions evolve.
-- Chris Long, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
