On its third quarter of 2026 earnings conference call, held on Oct. 30, 2026, Chevron (NYSE:CVX) outlined plans to double production across its three Venezuelan joint ventures to roughly 600,000 barrels per day by 2031. Unlocking low-cost reserves and driving operational efficiency with artificial intelligence allows the energy giant to fund capital spending while returning cash to shareholders. Three things management said stand out.

1. Venezuela Expansion Unlocks Self-Funding Low-Cost Production

Expanding operations under updated fiscal terms gives Chevron a low-cost growth engine that funds its own development. Total production costs sit below $20 per barrel without requiring massive new infrastructure spending.

Last month, we announced plans to double production for our three joint ventures to roughly 600,000 bpd, all on primary recovery, by 2031.
-- Mike Wirth, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

2. Restructured Bakken Tariffs Boost Return on Capital Employed

Management secured a 50% tariff reduction on Bakken midstream pipelines to expand economic drilling inventory in North Dakota. The deal improves return on capital employed (ROCE), which measures investment efficiency, while removing $3.7 billion of debt from the balance sheet.

Overall, it increases our corporate ROCE by 0.5%, deconsolidates $3.7 billion of debt, and delivers incremental recurring earnings.
-- Eimear Bonner, Chief Financial Officer

3. Artificial Intelligence Deployment Captures Over $100 Million

Deploying proprietary artificial intelligence tools across upstream drilling and downstream refinery operations speeds up subsurface imaging and minimizes equipment downtime. These digital tools have already generated tens of millions in financial value while lowering project scoping costs.

2026 is also proving to be an inflection year for AI, with more than $100 million in value capture to date, with much more building quickly.
-- Eimear Bonner, Chief Financial Officer

Looking Ahead

Production momentum is building across deepwater and shale assets, and leadership isn't hiding its satisfaction with how operations are executing. On the cost side, discipline and proprietary technology provide long-term structural advantages that protect profit margins. And investors are watching capital allocation priorities closely, including steady dividend growth and share repurchases.

Chevron is well-positioned to deliver more energy today and well into the future.
-- Mike Wirth, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

By maintaining a strong balance sheet while expanding high-return development projects in international basins, the business is positioning itself for multiyear cash generation.

Here is what the filing says, why NVDA, ARM and MU are the tradeable read-through, and the conditions that decide whether the AI trade passes its first public valuation test.

Brent's $115 front month sits $4.6 above January — the $14 spread to WTI is the supply-risk premiumDecember Brent trades at $115.29 while January is $110.71, a $4.58 backwardation. The December Brent-WTI spread is $14.2, versus a $3-5 normal. That gap, not the headline, is where the Middle East supply risk is priced. Here is what the curve says, why the December contract's expiry on October 30 will mechanically cut the headline by $4.6, and the 108.81 neckline that decides the next move.
