Intapp: 3 Key Takeaways for Long-Term Investors

Source The Motley Fool

Key Points

  • Demand for Intapp's new Celeste AI platform is growing so fast that it has created an implementation backlog, as the company races to hire enough deployment engineers.

  • Management is cementing a powerful competitive moat by making Intapp Walls for AI the mandatory security and compliance layer for third-party artificial intelligence platforms inside top law firms.

  • A 21% drop in legacy software license revenue is actually a bullish signal; clients are intentionally shortening their on-premises contracts to accelerate their cloud migrations.

  • Motley Fool Issues Rare "Total Conviction" Buy Alert ›

On its first-quarter fiscal 2027 earnings call, held on Oct. 27, 2026, Intapp (NASDAQ:INTA) made Intapp Celeste, its core artificial intelligence platform, generally available across all target industries. The move accelerates cloud adoption and expands subscription revenue as professional services firms modernize business operations.

Among the things management said, three quotes stand out.

1. Celeste Drives Qualified Pipeline Growth 2.5-Fold

Management launched Intapp Celeste, an artificial intelligence platform for firm operations, into general availability during the quarter. Demand grew fast across target markets because managing partners prioritize enterprisewide governance for automated workflows.

Our vertically focused preview events in support of the GA release this quarter are generating all-time high qualified Celeste pipeline, up approximately 2.5x quarter-over-quarter, which gives us confidence in FY '27.
-- David Morton, Chief Financial Officer

2. On-Premises Clients Accelerate Migration to Cloud

On-premises software licensing revenue fell as clients shortened contracts to one year or less in preparation for cloud upgrades. Cloud annual recurring revenue, or predictable subscription-based contract value, grew 28% year over year to $515.3 million.

License revenue was $23 million, down 21% year-over-year, reflecting the continued shortening of on-premises contract durations, many to 1 year or less, as these clients prepare to move to the cloud for an agentic-first future.
-- David Morton, Chief Financial Officer

3. Governance Platform Secures External AI Tools

Law firms require strict confidentiality controls before deploying third-party artificial intelligence software to practitioners. Intapp Walls for AI, a security compliance tool, enforces internal ethical rules across external partner software, expanding subscription monetization across the Am Law 100, the top 100 U.S. law firms by revenue.

That's why Intapp Walls for AI is becoming the governance layer for AI in professional firms. More than 70 of the Am Law 100 rely on Intapp walls, and walls for AI extends those same policies automatically into the AI platforms their lawyers use.
-- John Hall, Chairman and CEO

Looking Ahead

Demand for cloud-based artificial intelligence tools is expanding across legal, accounting, and financial services firms. However, because integrating AI into highly regulated workflows requires careful customization, Intapp is currently facing implementation bottlenecks as it works to hire enough firm-deployed engineers.

Demand is running ahead of our ability to engage, run proofs of concept, and deploy. Celeste is a true enterprise deployment configured around each firm's data, playbooks, and professional governance. We are adding deployment capacity to catch up to demand.
-- David Morton, Chief Financial Officer

Despite these near-term capacity constraints, management relies on deep software integration with leading technology partners, proprietary client workflow data, and strict pricing discipline to protect its competitive position.

We are unique in our position running the firm's data, workflows, and compliance infrastructure, governed and ready for agents. With Celeste now shipping, that advantage will continue to compound every quarter.
-- John Hall, Chairman and CEO
