Intel Shares Slump More Than 3% Below $100 Mark as Company Plans $15 Billion Stock Sale

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - Intel's plan to raise $15 billion sparks concerns; market fears of share dilution trigger a stock plunge below the $100 level.

On August 10, Eastern Time, Intel ( INTC) released a bombshell regulatory filing, announcing plans for a public offering of $15 billion in common stock. Following the news, investors' fear of significant equity dilution immediately triggered a market sell-off, pushing Intel's share price down over 3% in premarket trading to break below the $100 psychological level, temporarily trading at $98.36.

Why did Intel suddenly launch such a massive share offering? Intel noted that customer demand in the AI computing space remains robust, and the proceeds will be used to advance high-growth businesses such as physical AI, specialized chips, advanced packaging, and external foundry services. Another easily overlooked point is that Intel can use equity financing to reduce its debt ratio and secure its investment-grade credit rating.

However, the massive scale of Intel's offering directly dilutes existing shareholders' earnings per share (EPS) and ownership interest in the short term, which is the core reason for the immediate downward pressure on the stock price. In addition, despite robust AI demand, Wall Street institutions generally harbor concerns regarding the capital spending efficiency of Intel's foundry business. With the market yet to see a clearer timeline for free cash flow to turn positive, downward pressure on the stock price is mounting, making a retest of the $80 level highly likely in the short term.
