On its second-quarter fiscal 2027 earnings call, held on Nov. 4, 2026, Champion Homes (NYSE:SKY) reported net sales growth of 6.2% over the prior year. For long-term investors, the company's expansion into company-owned sales centers provides higher average selling prices and direct access to homebuyers. Three key takeaways from the call highlight how management is steering the business.

1. Captive Retail Expansion Drives Pricing Power and Margin Gains

Management is expanding captive retail, which refers to company-owned sales centers that sell directly to homebuyers rather than through independent dealers. Controlling these outlets lets Champion Homes capture higher retail margins and strengthen customer engagement across its footprint.

Captive retail represented approximately 39% of consolidated sales during the quarter compared to 37% in the prior year.
-- Timothy Larson, CEO

2. Material Cost Inflation Pressures Near-Term Margins

Input costs for steel and petroleum-based materials accelerated late in the quarter. Management is using targeted price increases and sourcing efficiencies to offset those expenses. But price realization tends to lag raw material cost hikes, so margins feel the squeeze in the near term.

However, material cost inflation accelerated during the quarter at a faster rate than we had assumed at that time. A higher proportion of sales through our captive retail channel benefited gross margin and partially offset these pressures.
-- David McKinstray, CFO

3. First-Time Homebuyers Are Turning to Offsite Construction

Elevated mortgage rates and expensive site-built housing are pushing new buyers toward factory-built alternatives. Champion Homes is meeting that demand by updating home aesthetics and expanding digital marketing leads to reach buyers who might not have considered manufactured housing before.

Within those channels, I'll use the example of even our street retailers and certainly our own company stores, we are seeing that consumer that's coming for the first time to manufactured housing.
-- Timothy Larson, CEO

Looking Ahead

Orders are expanding across multiple channels, and management expects third-quarter revenue growth of 8% to 10% year over year despite persistent macroeconomic inflation.

Demand held up very well through the quarter, and we saw increasing order levels across our channels as we move through the summer months into the fall.
-- Timothy Larson, CEO

The business relies on its captive retail scale, backlog lead times, and cash position to navigate input cost swings. And management continues to execute on strategic acquisitions alongside organic growth.

In summary, Champion continues to generate strong cash flow, maintain a highly flexible balance sheet and execute on a strategy that we believe will drive sustainable long-term shareowner value.
-- David McKinstray, CFO
