Apple Retreats Below $340 After Surge: Can First Touchscreen MacBook Pro Help Stock Reach New Highs?

TradingKey - Apple Pulls Back After High-Level Consolidation; Will the Debut of the First Touchscreen MacBook Pro Reignite the Engine for New All-Time Highs?

On October 20 ET, Apple (AAPL) extended its recent pullback, falling nearly 1% in pre-market trading today to drop below $340, trading at $339.74. Can the upcoming debut of the first OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro help AAPL halt its decline and rebound, or even drive the stock to a new record high?

Last Tuesday (October 13), Apple's stock price hit a new record high of $348.15. After its market capitalization briefly surpassed the $5.0 trillion milestone, substantial short-term paper profits accumulated. Some institutional capital chose to lock in gains in the high range of $345–$348, triggering a technical pullback.

On October 14–15, U.S. CPI (3.7%) and PPI (up 1.3% MoM) data for September were both higher than expected, driving a rebound in 10-year U.S. Treasury yields. Broad-market tech and high-valuation heavyweights (with P/E ratios above 39x) faced macro deleveraging selling pressure, putting further downside pressure on Apple's stock price.

According to tech reporter Mark Gurman, Apple is expected to launch its first touchscreen MacBook Pro at a new product launch event next Wednesday (October 28) ET. From a financial perspective, the Mac business accounts for approximately 8%–10% of Apple's total revenue. Wall Street investment banks such as Morgan Stanley and Wedbush expect it to drive 15%–20% revenue growth in the Mac business, contributing a net EPS increase of approximately $0.35–$0.50.

Furthermore, if the new-generation touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro is priced $200–$300 higher than the current version, this will raise the average selling price (ASP) of the Mac product line and push overall hardware gross margins higher, reinforcing public market valuation multiples based on its high free cash flow (FCF).

From a technical analysis perspective, if the highlights of the new products at the October 28 'Pro and Tell' launch event exceed expectations, driving the stock to break through $343.50 on heavy volume, bulls will immediately launch another assault on the record high of $348.15. Once $348.15 is cleared, AAPL will enter a pure primary upward wave with no overhead trapped supply. Coupled with strong year-end peak season guidance if provided in the Q4 earnings report on November 2, Wall Street's consensus target price will be raised to $365–$380.

If the product launch falls short of expectations and macro inflationary deleveraging continues to suppress the broader market, Apple's stock price will continue to pull back. The lower $328–$330 area serves as a consolidation base from September to early October combined with 0.382 Fibonacci support. As long as the daily candlestick closes above this line of defense, the medium- to long-term bullish trend remains intact.

Dollar presses 102 as the 10-year yield sits at 5.14% — and October hike odds are only 17%The dollar index closed at 101.99 (+0.20%) on Monday after briefly topping 102.07, while the 10-year Treasury yield rose to 5.14% and the 2-year hit 4.774% — yet futures price only about a 17% chance of a hike at the October 27-28 FOMC, versus roughly 90% for December. The driver is a global bond selloff, not a Fed repricing: France's 10-year OAT jumped to 4.84% ~ 4.94% and the OAT-Bund spread widened to 140 ~ 146bp. Here are the levels, the cross-asset read-through and what to watch.
