Optical Communication Giants Face Pre-Market Selling Pressure: Coherent Falls Over 3%, Lumentum Drops Over 2%

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - Optical communication concept stocks continued to fall in US pre-market trading, led by Coherent down over 3%, with Lumentum dropping over 2%, dragging down the sector.

On October 8 ET, US optical communication stocks continued their decline, coming under collective downward pressure in pre-market trading. Among them, Coherent (COHR) dropped over 3% at one point, Lumentum (LITE) and Credo (CRDO) fell over 2%, while Corning (GLW) and Marvell Technology (MRVL) slipped nearly 2%. Yesterday, these optical communication giants plunged collectively, led by Corning's drop of over 3%.

In today's pre-market session, US equity index futures came under pressure, with all three major index futures falling by about 0.5%. As a high-beta segment of the AI networking supply chain, optical communications was more significantly impacted by the overall drop in market risk appetite. From a deeper perspective, rising US Treasury yields and crude oil prices, along with the September FOMC meeting minutes signaling a potential rate hike before year-end, have raised new doubts in the market over the scale of the AI investment craze.

Furthermore, as an industry summit approaches, the market is reassessing the mass production progress of 1.6T optical modules and the replacement impact of co-packaged optics (CPO) and linear-drive pluggable optics (LPO) on traditional pluggable modules, sparking short-term bearish sentiment.
