GE Aerospace Earnings Beat Expectations, Why Did Shares Fall Nearly 2%?

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - GE Aerospace's earnings beat expectations, but the stock price remains under pressure, testing the $300 mark.

Before the market open on October 20 ET, GE Aerospace (GE) reported impressive Q3 2026 earnings results, with key financial metrics beating expectations across the board. However, its stock price fell nearly 2%, trading at $306.20.

According to the reported earnings data, GE Aerospace's revenue grew 18% year-over-year to $13.29 billion, exceeding analysts' expectations of $12.878 billion; adjusted earnings per share were $2.25, also higher than the market consensus of $2.00.

Despite strong revenue from high-margin aftermarket maintenance, the growth rate of new engine orders and the total value of new orders—the market's primary focus—showed a sequential slowdown. Following the deceleration in order growth in the previous quarter (Q2), the market remains extremely sensitive to whether the aerospace manufacturing cycle has peaked. Moreover, management's cautious stance on component lead times and production costs triggered concerns among some short-term capital regarding Q4 capacity bottlenecks.

Prior to the earnings release, GE Aerospace's forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio had climbed to an elevated range of nearly 38x–40x. When a company's valuation is at a historical peak, merely beating expectations is no longer enough to drive the stock price up; the market needs to see explosive upside surprises, which is one of the key reasons behind GE Aerospace's stock pullback.

Although the stock fell nearly 2% in the short term after the earnings release, GE boasts a massive backlog of up to $200 billion and a high-margin aftermarket service business with margins of 25%+, maintaining an extremely solid long-term fundamental moat. As long as the stock completes share rotation above the key $300.00 psychological level, this pullback should be regarded as a healthy short-term shakeout driven by pre-earnings profit-taking.

The driver is a global bond selloff, not a Fed repricing: France's 10-year OAT jumped to 4.84% ~ 4.94% and the OAT-Bund spread widened to 140 ~ 146bp.
