Data center organic sales grew over 80% in Electrical Solutions.
Year-to-date utility backlog build exceeded $500 million.
Capacity investment is expected to reach $50 million per quarter next year.
On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 27, 2026, Hubbell (NYSE:HUBB) announced double-digit sales growth and raised its full-year earnings guidance. The company is expanding its factory footprint to catch up with massive demand across electrical power grids and data centers. High demand combined with pricing discipline protects profit margins against persistent material cost inflation.
Three things management said stand out.
Sales of components for data center electrical systems grew rapidly because cloud infrastructure expansion feeds directly into core equipment orders. Expanding factory equipment allowed the company to keep pace with customer orders.
Data center sales increased over 80% on an organic basis in the third quarter as content gains, new product introductions, and capacity additions drove outgrowth in a strong underlying market.
-- Joe Capozzoli, Chief Financial Officer
Utility customers are ordering power grid hardware faster than factories ship it, creating a growing backlog. Aging electrical grid upgrades and new power connections for artificial intelligence facilities provide multiyear growth visibility.
Orders throughout 2026 have continued to exceed our initial expectations, with particular strength in transmission and substation project activity driving backlog build in excess of $500 million year to date.
-- Gerben Bakker, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer
To overcome factory bottlenecks in high-demand product lines, management is adding physical plant space and new machinery. Doubling quarterly capacity investments helps unlock revenue that was previously constrained by factory limits.
As we look into next year, we anticipate that to about double to about $50 million per quarter as we go into next year.
-- Gerben Bakker, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer
Order books are filling faster than usual as electric grid modernization and data center builds accelerate across North America. Specified product positioning and an extensive installed base provide strong pricing power against raw material inflation.
We will be exiting 2026 with stronger than typical backlog visibility, and we are confident in our ability to deliver an attractive year of organic growth in 2027.
-- Gerben Bakker, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer
Management is expanding factory floor space to clear delivery bottlenecks while maintaining a high return on invested capital. Electric power transmission and distribution (T&D) infrastructure investments provide a long tailwind for multiyear growth.
We continue to believe utility T&D markets are in the early stages of an attractive multi-year investment cycle, driven by aging infrastructure and bolstered by load growth and data center interconnections.
-- Gerben Bakker, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer
