On its second-quarter fiscal 2027 earnings call, held on Oct. 23, 2026, World Acceptance (NASDAQ:WRLD) reported adjusted earnings of $1.92 per share. Strict lending discipline drove lower delinquency rates across the portfolio. Three things management said stand out.

1. Credit Quality Improves Through Underwriting Discipline

Provision expense fell 7.7% year over year alongside lower delinquency rates. Tighter credit standards helped protect the balance sheet during the quarter.

This quarter reflects steady progress against our core priorities: growing loan portfolio responsibly, improving credit quality and maintaining a disciplined approach to expenses.
-- John Calmes, President and Chief Executive Officer

2. Management Prioritizes Operational Discipline Over Aggressive Growth

Credit levers remain tighter than they were last year, despite a modest easing since March. Management focuses on operational fundamentals rather than chasing growth in an uncertain economic environment.

So we're focused right now on the blocking and tackling and getting the fundamentals right of the operations and then taking a cautious approach to lending.
-- John Calmes, President and Chief Executive Officer

3. Credit Card Pilot Offers Future Optionality

Management is pilot testing a credit card product to expand beyond traditional installment loans. Scaling decisions remain at least one to two quarters away as the initial loan cohort matures.

We've got enough cards out there that we're kind of getting to see how people behave over time. We really are in just letting that initial portfolio bake.
-- Tobin Turner, Chief Operating Officer

Looking Ahead

Application flow remains consistent across the branch footprint. World Acceptance relies on relationships with local branches and conservative underwriting filters to manage credit risk.

We're pleased with our overall app flow. So we kind of like where we're positioned.
-- Tobin Turner, Chief Operating Officer

Near-term portfolio growth will remain measured as management maintains strict lending criteria.

So we may continue to kind of put some of those levers to increase growth a little bit, but I wouldn't expect any dramatic change in our growth trajectory in the near term.
-- John Calmes, President and Chief Executive Officer
