The S&P 500 index gets all the attention as the conventional stock market gauge. But investors need to be aware of other benchmarks that they can put their hard-earned savings behind.

For example, the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ: QQQ) is an exceptional exchange-traded fund (ETF) with a first-rate track record. If you'd invested $1,000 in this product 10 years ago, here's how much you'd have today.

The QQQ has generated a total return of 571% in the past 10 years (as of Sept. 25), turning $1,000 into more than $6,700 today. This translates to an unbelievable 21% annualized growth rate, which significantly outpaces that of the S&P 500 index during the same time.

Heavily weighted toward the technology sector, which represents 66% of the portfolio, this ETF has benefited greatly from the rise of the "Magnificent Seven" stocks. In recent years, its growth has been bolstered by the artificial intelligence boom, a key catalyst.

It's understandable that investors want the past decade's returns to repeat in the coming 10 years. Whether that's possible or not, what matters is that the QQQ remains one of the most high-potential ETFs in the market. And if you're a long-term bull on the impact that technology companies can have on the economy, it's a good candidate for your portfolio.
